Karate1 Premier League Salzburg 2015 Results

Since 2011, Austria Karate Federation hosted the Karate1 Premier League in Salzburg. This year, tournament has been held in Sporthalle Alpenstraße arena in Salzburg (Austria) from 17th to 18th of October 2015.

Karate Proposed by Tokyo for 2020 Olympic Games

The WKF would like to thank the IOC and the TOCOG for their proposal to include our sport of Karate as an additional sport in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Programme.

WKF is Recognized Paralympic Sport

On 12th June, 2015 the WKF could celebrate for a great success: the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board accepted the WKF as the 30th sport discipline within the Paralympic Family.

WKF Karate1 Premier League Sao Paulo Results

For the first time, Karate1 Premier League Brazil has been held in São Paulo on May 30th and 31st 2015. This competition was the first tournament on American continent.

The tournament hosted 400 athletes from 26 countries (Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, USA, Malaysia, Iran, France, …) to test themselves on the tatami of São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo.

For the first time, São Paulo Open will take part of the WKF Premier League Karate1 tour in May 30th and 31st 2015. Brazilian Karate Federation and Sao Paulo City will host this great event and will offer the best conditions for all karate competitors.

WKF Unveils List of Qualified Competitors for European Games

The 1st european games will be held in Baku (Azerbaijan) and will be the inaugural edition of the european games, an international multi-sport event for athletes representing the national olympic committees (NOCs) of Europe.

Results from 50th EKF Senior Championships in Istanbul

During 4 days (19-22 March 2015), the adult karate elite from 47 European nations has taken place in Istanbul (Turkey). 495 ambitious competitors shown challenging forms (kata) and attractive fights (kumite).

This year, all best competitors are qualifed for the 1st European Games. 

The European Games is a multi-sport event for athletes from all over Europe and is held every four years. The Games are owned, organised and regulated by the European Olympic Committees. In 2015, Baku will be the proud Host City of the 1st European Games. Competition take place from June 12 to 28.

50th EKF Senior Championships in Istanbul, Turkey

The registration of athletes for the 50th EKF Senior Championships in Istanbul (Turkey) has now closed and the names of the participants are disclosed.

From Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd of March, around 495 athletes from at least 47 nations will compete to become the new European Karate Champions of one of the 16 existing categories.

Euro, Pan Am Senior Championship Key for Games Qualification

Next week, two continental events will be played. These competitions are an important objective for athletes because they are an important step for future qualifications.

From 19 to 21 March the XXIX Pan American Adult Karate Championship will be held in Toronto (Canada) and will qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games.

Karate1 Premier League Almere Set for Feb. 14-15

Karate1 Premier League Almere will be held in Topsportcentrum Almere on 14th and 15th February 2015. The Almere Open is the second Open tournament of this season. This year however will be remarkable, both in terms of quantity of registered athletes and in terms of outstanding level of the participants.

The counter of participating countries is impressive with 613 competitors registered from 51 countries, among which the top Karatekas of the world.

WKF Stages Karate Premier League of Paris this Weekend

The new Premier League season will start of the best ways in Paris this week, with the impressive record of 912 athletes registered from 68 countries, among which the top karatekas of the world.

Paris (France) will be the host of the first Karate 1 Premier League of the season. The event will be held in the Pierre de Courbertin stadium on 23rd, 24th and 25th of January.

Egypt, Brazil Join WKF Premier League 2015

The calendar of the Karate1 Premier League for 2015 has been disclosed. A total of 8 events are planned. As it is the case since the creation of the WKF Premier League, Paris will open the season in January, and this year Okinawa will do the closing and unveil names of Grand winners for 2015. Many events of the previous edition (Paris, Almere, Istanbul, Hanau, Salzburg and Okinawa) have been renewed and two new events will join the Premier League series this year: Egypt and Brazil.

WKF Welcomes National Federation of Kosovo

The World Karate Federation announces the new membership of the National Karate Federation of Kosovo under the leadership of its President, Mr Fadil Arifi. The WKF Executive Committee has now confirmed the provisional membership of the Kosovo NF last Saturday 13th December 2014 after compliance with the necessary formalities and following the existing procedures for application of new members.

WKF Karate Bremen 2014 Showcases Success for Media Strategy

Since a few years now, the WKF is committed to a strategy of development of its visibility all around the world, focusing on two domains: TV production/broadcast and social media. 22nd World Senior Karate Championships Final Results

22nd World Championships has taken to an end at the ÖVB arena in Bremen on this Sunday evening after 5 days of intense competition. As expected, competition provided incredible excitement in all weight categories.

10 New Karate World Champions Crowned in Bremen, Germany

A strong field of 116 nations and 996 athletes is in Bremen, Germany to take part in the 22nd World Senior Championships. Competition started on Wednesday 5th and last until Sunday 9th of November 2014.

The fourth day disclosed the name of the 10 World Champions in individual kumite categories. As expected, competition has been exciting in all weight categories with champions, newcomers and veterans vying for the medals.
Enes ERKAN from Turkey is the only athlete to keep its title acquired in Paris two years ago, while Douglas BROSE, regain its world champion title (Belgrad 2010), lost in Paris 2012 (Silver medalist).

Eliminations Finished Friday at World Karate Championships

Eliminations finished on Friday evening and the name of all finalists of the 22nd World Senior Karate Championships is disclosed. The championships take place in Bremen since Wednesday 5th and will last until Sunday 9th.

Karate at 17th Asian Games Luncheon 2014

Karate will take part of the 17th Asian Games this weekend, a continental multi-sport event hosted every four years by the Olympic Council of Asia. The Asian Games 2014 in Incheon, South Korea, represents 36 sports, about 13 000 athletes and officials, during 16 days (19th September – 4th October). Recognized by the IOC, the Asian Games are one of the most important multi-sport events after the Olympic Games. Karate has been included in the programme already 20 years ago in 1994.

Oktagon Promoter to Scout ISKA European Open for New Talent

Europe’s largest annual promotion Oktagon which has attracted up to 12,000 spectators to Milan, Italy each year since 1996 will be scouting for new talent at the ISKA European Open 23rd to 26th October 2014 in Pescara Italy.

600 Volunteers Joining World Senior Karate Championships

The World Senior Karate Championships will take place in 43 days in Bremen, Germany, and the organising committee is working hard to deliver a perfectly organised event. Among all missions, volunteers recruitment may be one of the most important, as volunteers often are the key to make a roaring success of an event. The recruitment was launched one year ago, and the first application came from Bavaria, about 800 km. away from Bremen. This first one has been followed by a lot of volunteers that were happy to join the team.

Malaga Success for 2014 World Kata Championships

The 2014 World Kata Championships came to a close at the Sport Palace Malaga in Spain on Sunday as Japan showed their prominence at the annual competition which is expanding every year.

Kata specialists Japan dominated the two-day competition, which is now in its sixth year, with four titles but a host of countries were chasing them down as only four points separated first place from third place in Juno Kata and eight points were the difference in Nage no kata between the same positions.

WKF President to Meet Members in Oceania

When the WKF President, Mr Antonio Espinos visited Oceania on the occasion of the 16th Oceania Karate Championship held in Suva, Fiji his presence wasn’t only meaningful to karatekas and members of the Oceania Karate Federation, it also provided an opportunity for NF Presidents and Officials, Referees, Coaches and Athletes to meet with the WKF President in person.

The government of Fiji also acknowledged his presence as it is not common for a President of a World Federation to visit Oceania in particular the Pacific Islands, like Fiji.

WKF Announces 23rd Mediterranean Senior Karate Championships

A few months after the World University Championships, Bar (Montenegro) will welcome on 13 & 14 of September 2014 another major competition in Karate: the 23rd Mediterranean Senior Karate Championships.

The first edition was staged in September 1987 and since then these championships are organised by the Mediterranean Karate Federation Union (MKFU) every year at the end of September, alternatively for Senior and for Cadet/Junior/Under 21 categories.

Karate Premier League Istanbul Set for Sept. 6-7

This weekend Turkey will welcome the best Karetekas of the world for the Karate 1 Premier League in Istanbul. The event will be held in Asli Cakir Alptekin Sports Hall on 6th and 7th September. 592 Karatekas from 57 countries are expected to participate in this prestigious event to be hosted in Istanbul for the 4th time.

Karate 1 Premier League Okinawa Debuts Aug. 30-31

Japan will organise for the first time in its history a WKF Premier League and decided to host it in the birthplace of Karate, Okinawa.

The whole Karate family has been expecting it for a long time, and will be more than keen to explore the roots of our Martial art at this occasion.

As a proof of the high expectations, almost 350 participants have already registered, a record for a first Karate 1 edition. Even more significant is that athletes from 65 nations will take part of the competition and will, for most of them, discover the country of karate for the first time.

WKF, SportAccord Announce Anti-Doping Agreement

The World Karate Federation (WKF) and SportAccord have just signed an agreement, effective January 2014, for the provision of anti-doping services by the SportAccord Doping-Free Sport Unit (DFSU). It includes the administration of WKF anti-doping programme by the DFSU staff in the areas of athletes whereabouts, testing, therapeutic use exemptions, results management, and education.

SportAccord World Combat Games – Day 4 Recap

The fourth day of competitions in Saint Petersburg was full of great combat sports and martial arts action. Aikido, Kendo, Kickboxing, Karate and Muaythai were the spectacles of the day. In Karate, the finals took place in Women’s Kumite -61kg, -68kg, +68kg, Men’s Kumite -84kg, -75kg, +84kg. In Kendo the Men’s and Women’s Individual Competition ended with some unexpected results. In Aikido, a series of demonstrations followed through the afternoon. Kickboxing kicked off the tournament today and it turned out to be a glorious day for some athletes while others were left shattered. Hundreds of athletes continue competing for the medals and even more will be tomorrow and for the next five days.
