Fight Network Launches ‘Fighting Spirit Wrestling’ Series

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, has acquired the broadcast rights for Fighting Spirit Wrestling, which features world-class international professional wrestling from Mexico’s CMLL and Japan’s New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The compilation shows will feature memorable matches from the top superstars in Mexico and Japan.

Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), based in Mexico City, is the oldest professional wrestling promotion in existence, featuring a Lucha Libre-style renowned for its innovation and high flyers. Some of the top stars include Mistico, Volador Jr. Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero and La Sombra. Fight Network also airs the “CMLL Minis” series, featuring the Mexican Mini-Estrella division, which was created in 1992.

Meanwhile, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), founded in June 1972 by martial arts legend Antonio Inoki, showcases top stars from the Land of the Rising Sun. NJPW has developed a reputation for the quality of its matches, often earning accolades from “The Wrestling Observer Newsletter” and “Live Audio Wrestling” in its year-end awards. Most recently, NJPW was named the 2012 “Promotion of the Year” in a category that also includes mixed martial arts. Notable stars include Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Shinsuke Nakamura, Yuji Nagata, Prince Devitt and Satoshi Kojima. NJPW often features mixed martial arts pioneers on its shows in crossover matches, including Kazushi Sakuraba, Kiyoshi Tamura, Bob Sapp and Minoru Suzuki.

“There has always been a significant demand for alternatives to North American sports entertainment,” said Chad Midgley, VP of Programming & Production. “By blending the best of Mexico and Japan, this is the quintessential professional wrestling program for those who want something different.”
