**Today’s edition of Review-A-Wai is up on the website with Wai Ting and I reviewing the 2008 Royal Rumble show from Madison Square Garden, which featured the big surprise return of John Cena along with Randy Orton defending the WWE Title against Jeff Hardy (who had gained a ton of momentum coming into this show) and more at http://fightnetwork.com/news/6384192:review-a-wai-wwe-royal-rumble-2008/. The show is also up on iTunes and the free Stitcher app.
**Here are the matches on WWE Main Event, taped last night in San Diego, California:
*Antonio Cesaro Vs Ryback in a non-title match
*Tensai Vs Titus O’Neil
**TNA president Dixie Carter stated on Twitter today that she will be making a major announcement that is going to change “everything” for the wrestlers, company and the audience. Perhaps they are going to cut down to one pay-per-view a year (or Bobby Lashley is coming back).
**If you missed yesterday’s edition of Review-A-Raw with Wai Ting and I it is up on the site at http://fightnetwork.com/news/6384192:review-a-wai-wwe-royal-rumble-2008/ and we are joined by The Score’s Arda Ocal, who attended both the Royal Rumble and Raw live as well the various panel chats over the weekend so you can check that out now.
**A man was shot in the eye during a robbery at his liquor store last week but that wasn’t the worst part of his week following the Royal Rumble:
**Pat Laprade has a full story on the official signing of El Generico (Rami Sabei) with the WWE, which is now official after passing his medical tests that all talent must go through. It is expected Generico will report to NXT in February. The full story is up at http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2013/01/30/20538121.html.
**A Dublin, Ireland pub goes insane for The Rock winning the WWE Title on Sunday (what makes this even more hilarious is that this was at nearly 4am in Ireland):
**Rey Mysterio did appear on the Smackdown tapings last night in San Diego but it is unknown what his schedule is looking like in the near future. He was brought in for the Rumble as a surprise and the tapings were in his home town of San Diego last night and it was convenient for him to do.
**In the latest decision change the WWE has now cancelled the Intercontinental Cup after listing the participants. The tournament was to begin at the Main Event tapings last night but didn’t happen and Wade Barrett posted on Twitter that it has been cancelled.
**Brock Lesnar has been added to the advertising for a number of Raw dates leading into WrestleMania including this Monday’s show in Atlanta, Georgia, which is one of the few Raw dates The Rock is not scheduled to appear at before WrestleMania. Lesnar is also scheduled for the February 25th tapings in Dallas, March 11th in Indianapolis and April 1st in Washington, D.C.
**The Briscoe Brothers will defend the ROH Tag Titles against Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly at the 11th Anniversary show on March 2nd in Chicago Ridge, Illinois.
**I will be a guest on “MMA Meltdown” tonight with Gabe Morency at Midnight EST on Fight Network chatting Royal Rumble, UFC 156 and breaking down Jose Aldo Vs Frankie Edgar.
LAW MMA UPDATE
**The final number for this past Saturday’s UFC on FOX 6 card was a huge success and even more impressive to me than the December number because of the unknown in Demetrious Johnson Vs John Dodson put in the main event slot. The show finished with a 2.4 rating and averaged 4,200,000 with the main event averaging 5,200,000. The card also dominated in the Male 18-49 demographic with a 2.1, which was the highest of any network in that key demographic. This marks two solid television numbers for the UFC to start off 2013 with the FX 7 card doing surprisingly well for the Vitor Belfort Vs Michael Bisping headlined card, which averaged 1,900,000 viewers and was the highest rated UFC card on FX to date.
**Loretta Hunt of SI.com was the first to report that Viacom has signed a partnership deal with Randy Couture and will officially be announced next Tuesday on a conference call. Part of the deal includes Couture coaching on the first season of Bellator’s reality show that will premiere later this year. Loretta Hunt will be joining me on The MMA Report tomorrow to further discuss this partnership and the implications of the deal throughout the MMA industry.
**Patricky “Pitbull” Freire has announced that he injured his knee in his final sparring session before tomorrow night’s Bellator card and is out of the lightweight tournament. Freire was scheduled to fight Montreal based fighter Guillaume DeLorenzi in the quarterfinals of the tournament. With the injury Saad Awal is being moved from a preliminary fight to take on DeLorenzi on the main televised card.
**A lightweight fight between Nate Diaz and Josh Thomson has been added to the April 20th UFC on FOX 7 card set for San Jose, California at the HP Pavilion. It will almost be a full year between fights for Thomson, who last fought in May 2012 with a split decision loss to Gilbert Melendez while both were in Strikeforce. For those that listened to the first edition of The MMA Report this year you will remember that I predicted Diaz Vs Thomson would be the 2013 Fight of the Year and now it has officially been announced.
**ESPN reported today that Michael Bisping will be back in action on April 27th in the co-feature of UFC 159 against Alan Belcher. Both middleweights are coming off of losses with Belcher dropping a decision to Yushin Okami at UFC 155 in December and Bisping suffering a TKO loss to Vitor Belfort earlier this month in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The main event of UFC 159 features Jon Jones defending the light heavyweight title against Chael Sonnen. The UFC has also announced that Cheick Kongo will fight Roy Nelson on the main card along with a lightweight fight between Jim Miller and Strikeforce import Pat Healy and a light heavyweight bout between Vinny Magalhaes and Phil Davis has also been signed for the April 27th event.
**Bellator has announced that their February 21st card from Salt Lake City, Utah will feature the semi-finals of the light heavyweight tournament with Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal taking on Emmanuel Newton along with the finals of last season’s featherweight tournament as Rad Martinez meets Shahbulat Shamhalaev and the winner will get to fight current champion Pat Curran later this year.
