LAW Jan. 7 Update – The Rock Returns, TLC Match on Raw

**Last night’s edition of The LAW is up on the website with Dan “The Mouth” Lovranski, Jason Agnew and I chat all the news from the past week and take your phone calls on  booking plans for WrestleMania 29 as the buildup kicks off. The LAW roundtable also returned Sunday night with UFC middleweight “Filthy” Tom Lawlor joining us for two segments chatting the current product and more. Plus, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter stops by, Title Bout Trivia featuring our first Spelling Bee and LAW Xtra is back with Mouth and I chatting the New Japan Tokyo Dome show. The LAW is up at and available on iTunes if you subscribe to Live Audio Wrestling and the free Stitcher app.

**Tonight is a big edition of Raw from Tampa, Florida featuring the return of The Rock for the first time since RAW 1000 last July and kicks off the next three-months building towards WrestleMania 29. The other big draw on tonight’s show is CM Punk Vs Ryback in a TLC Match for the WWE Title, which they technically could get out of if they don’t want to beat Ryback but after so many weeks it would be very transparent as a ratings grab to tease the match and not deliver it at this point. The goal is to load up as many Raws as possible moving forward toward ‘Mania with next week being the big 20th Anniversary show and then the following week is the “go home” show before the Royal Rumble with The Rock appearing at all the Raw shows leading into the Rumble.

**Review-A-Raw returns late tonight with Wai Ting and I running down the show and taking your feedback from The LAW Message Board.

**The Smackdown and Main Event television tapings take place from Miami, Florida on Tuesday night with The Rock scheduled for those tapings as well as the guy has put together an insane schedule for himself over the next three-months.

**The Smash Pro Wrestling card in Mississauga, Ontario featured a last minute change to the main event where the Kevin Steen Vs Johnny Gargano match was turned into a tag match with Tyson Dux teaming with Steen against Gargano and Scotty O’Shea. On the surface it would appear that either Ring of Honor or Dragon Gate USA spoke up at the last minute not wanting their guy to take the fall but in fact the tag match still ended with Gargano pinning Steen. There is some speculation that Steen’s back is really hurting him right now and he having it massaged it in the back and perhaps that was the reason for the change.

**Jeff Hardy & James Storm Vs Austin Aries & Bobby Roode headlines Impact Wrestling this Thursday night at 8pm EST on Spike TV.

**Here is the updated line up for the TNA Genesis card coming up this Sunday from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida:
*Jeff Hardy Vs Austin Aries Vs Bobby Roode for the TNA Title
*Hernandez & Chavo Guerrero Vs Matt Morgan & Joey Ryan for the Tag Titles
*Rob Van Dam Vs Winner of Tournament for the X Division Title
*Christian York Vs Zema Ion or Kenny King
*Christopher Daniels Vs James Storm

**The Miracle on Main Street that the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation put together last month raised $250,000 for their charity drive and donated it to Sick Children (Sick Kids), McMaster Children’s Hospital, Halton Women’s Place and Salvation Army.

**Tommy Dreamer has a rundown of his year-end awards in his weekly column for The Whig Standard at

**It was on this date in 2002 that Triple H made his return to television after tearing his quad in May 2001. The return came on Raw at Madison Square Garden and was received by a massive reaction and led to the most successful Royal Rumble ever that year built around Hunter entering and winning the Rumble.

**Stephen Espinoza, the Vice-President and G.M. of Showtime Sports was a guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani today and confirmed that the network is remaining in the MMA business and is meeting with prospective companies to take the Strikeforce slot. I do know that Ray Sefo of World Series of Fighting had met with Showtime officials late last year.

**Eddie Alvarez was also a guest on The MMA Hour today and is disputing that Bellator has matched the offer made by the UFC and they will be going to court to determine if Alvarez can leave for the UFC or not. The terms of his Bellator offer state that if they can match a competing offer than Alvarez would have to remain with Bellator. This was hinted at after UFC 155 when Dana White stated things were going to get “ugly” regarding the Eddie Alvarez situation.

**Bellator has announced that Christian M’Pumbu will fight Atilla Vegh for the Bellator Light Heavyweight Title on February 28th and airing on Spike TV at 10pm EST.

**The UFC has announced that Yves Jabouin will fight Johnny Eduardo on March 16th at the UFC 158 card in Montreal, Quebec.
