Fight Network Announces Three-Year Deal with World Karate Federation

Toronto – Canada’s Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, announces a three-year multi-platform programming partnership with the World Karate Federation, the largest international governing body of sport karate with other 180 member countries. The partnership will include live broadcasts of tournaments between 2012 and 2015. The deal has been brokered by Simply Sport SL, worldwide broadcast rights distributor of the European and World Karate Federation.
The deal kicks off on May 12, 2012 with a live broadcast of the European Karate Championships from Tenerife, Spain.
Fight Network will also broadcast select archive events from the World Karate Federation, including the 2006 World Championships from Tampere, Finland and the 2008 World Championships from Tokyo, Japan.
“One of the oldest traditional forms of martial arts, karate is a staple in the world of fighting and a tremendous sport that we are proud to feature on Fight Network,” said Chad Midgley, VP of Programming & Production at Fight Network. “Karate’s roots date back to the 18th century and the art form serves as a basis for many other martial arts developed over the years. The competitors are tremendous athletes from all over the world. We are very proud to give live karate broadcasts a home here in Canada.”

The tentative schedule for live World Karate Federation broadcasts on Fight Network is:
May 12/13, 2012 – European Karate Championships from Tenerife, Spain
November 24/25, 2012 – World Karate Championships from Paris, France
Dates TBA, 2013 – Challenge 8 Tournaments
May 6/7/8, 2013 – European Karate Championships from Budapest, Hungary
May 2014 – European Karate Championships from Tampere, Finland
Fall 2014 – World Karate Championships from Bremen, Germany
