LAW Mar. 14 Update - WWE Releases Executive

John Pollock / March 14, 2012 - 2:33pm

**The latest episode of Review a Wai is up with Wai Ting and I welcoming Damian Abraham back to the program to review WrestleMania 2000. Abraham recently conducted an interview with WWE Champion CM Punk that airs across Canada tonight on Muchmusic’s ‘The Wedge’ airing late tonight at 2am EST. To download the show it’s available at http://fightnetwork.com/news/30621:review-a-wai-wrestlemania-2000-w-damian-abraham/ and you can also subscribe to all of our shows on iTunes by subscribing to ‘Live Audio Wrestling’ and with the free Stitcher app for smart phone users.

**Standout referee Dick Woerhle passed away on Monday at the age of 81 after battling colon cancer for some time. Woerhle was the lead official for the WWWF throughout the 1970’s and officiating all the major matches during the decade involving the Bruno Sammartino, Pedro Morales, Superstar Billy Graham and was as recognizable to that era of wrestling as Earl Hebner would be to this generation. Woerhle was phased out during the expansion period as he never wanted to go on the road outside of the home base in the Northeast and be away from his family. The Gloucester County Sports site has a lengthy story on his passing with comments from his widow, Judi as well as Larry Sharpe.

**The WWE has released their Vice President of Talent Development, Ty Bailey, who had worked under both John Laurinaitis and Triple H in the past. Bailey had worked with a lot of local talent for shows and booking them as extras at television. In an interesting note, Bailey was scheduled to be a part of the Devon Nicholson trial as he was the company executive that offered and then rescinded the WWE deal to Nicholson. The trial was scheduled to start last Thursday but has been delayed for another 2-3 months.

**The LAW’s Jason Agnew is kicking off a new comedy show on Newstalk 1010 in Toronto starting Thursday night at 10pm EST. Agnew’s guests for the first show will be Mike Bullard and Gary Rideout (who is just about every Canadian commercial you can think of right now) and you can listen online at http://www.newstalk1010.com.

**WWE ‘Raw’ did a 3.27 rating and averaged 4,820,000 viewers on Monday, which is up slightly from the week prior.

**Due to time constraints on Monday the WWE didn’t have time to air the video for Mil Mascaras, who will be going into the Hall of Fame this year. Triple H announced to the live crowd in Mexico City last September that Mascaras would be inducted and he was introduced to the live crowd that night. His nephew Alberto Del Rio will be the one to induct him into the Hall of Fame.

**The complete interview with Steve Austin is posted up in our podcasts section at http://fightnetwork.com/podcasts, which you heard a portion of on The LAW Sunday night. We also have a 90-minute chat with Rick Martel up there discussing his entire career as well as all of our regular shows.

**Jesse Sorensen has gotten positive news from his doctors that his healing process could not be going any better than it is. Sorensen fractured his C-1 vertebrae at the February ‘Against All Odds’ event and is expected to be out of action for a full year.

**Hornswoggle has joined CM Punk and Randy Orton as those speaking publicly about The Rock’s return:

Glad @TheRock needs to sing karaoke to get his $hit in. @JohnCena will always be a true professional, doesn't need scripted lines, bullet points, or #stupidsrxualinuendos like @TheRock

And here is an immediate response from Jim Ross:

**Despite rumours going around Bret Hart has said that no one has contacted him about inducting Yokozuna into the Hall of Fame. Yokozuna is expected to the final name announced for this year’s class.

**Ring of Honor has announced they will hold a Fan Fest event open to the public before their March 30th 'Showdown in the Sun' iPPV in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The fan fest will take place from 4-6pm leading into the show later that night.

**Jim Ross, Dustin Rhodes and Perry Saturn were both recently in Florida at the FCW training facility working with the developmental talent.

**Mike Tyson will be appearing at WWE Fan Axxess for the Friday night session on March 30th from 8pm-10pm and will be signing autographs.

**The talent appearances for all the WWE Fan Axxess sessions have been released with the following drawing the unfortunate Saturday night session (meaning talent will miss the Hall of Fame) – Wade Barrett, Mick Foley (who I’m sure will make an appearance and then be brought over to the Hall of Fame), Ted DiBiase, Kane, Paul Bearer, Brodus Clay, Naomi, Cameron, Jinder Mahal, Layla, Mason Ryan, Teddy Long, AJ, Kaitlyn and Drew McIntyre.

**Dragon Gate USA has announced some changes to their March 30th iPPV event in Miami, Florida with Johnny Gargano taking the spot of Rich Swann to team with Chuck Taylor and face CIMA & Ricochet for the Open the United Gate Titles. Swann will now take on Masato Yoshino on that same card. The March 30th card will also feature Low Ki Vs PAC and Akira Tozawa Vs Masaaki Mochizuki and will be available for $1.99 that night at WWNLive.com.

**EVOLVE has announced the following two main events for their April 13th iPPV in Toronto, Ontario as part of WrestleReunion weekend:
*Low Ki Vs El Genercio
*Fit Finlay Vs Sami Callihan

**John Cena Vs Mark Henry has been announced for ‘Raw’ next Monday in Philadelphia.

**There is a free online eBook covering the early days of TNA from BarbaricWrestling.com and available at http://z6.invisionfree.com/grungereport/index.php?s=fc9ed9b5f2e82f2431b4349495ac1238&showforum=197 with comments from Larry Zbyszko, Bill Behrens, Sonjay Dutt, Petey Williams, David Young, Johnny Fairplay and others.

**Jersey All Pro Wrestling has announced they will be closing up with a final show scheduled for April 14th in Rahway, New Jersey. The company announced a partnership in 2010 with New Japan Pro Wrestling and brought a ton of NJPW talent over for a three show tour last year that did not draw well and the promotion has not run any events since that tour.

**For the Japanese wrestling fan out there – you can bid on an official Ribera Steak House jacket right now on eBay.

**Dana White announced on ‘UFC Tonight’ on Tuesday that Quinton Jackson would fight Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in his next fight and then Jackson would be done with the UFC with his contract expiring after that fight. Jackson has always wanted a rematch with ‘Shogun’ following their April 2005 bout for the Pride Fighting Championships where Jackson said he went into the fight hurt and paid for it, being brutalized by ‘Shogun’ in the opening round of the Middleweight Grand Prix. It was the events in that fight where Jackson’s then trainer, Colin Oyama was admonishing Jackson in their corner that eventually led to Jackson splitting with Oyama and going to work with Juanito Ibarra (another trainer he has since left). Jackson has been vocal over the past week about wanting out of his UFC deal to pursue boxing and criticizing the UFC for how little he was paid for the Ryan Bader fight (a non-headlining bout and the first fight since his debut against Marvin Eastman in 2007 where his fight wasn’t one of the key draws on the show) and being paired in the cage with strong wrestlers.

**The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission has announced that they are not accepting any applications for any combat sports events after March 31st including MMA and Professional Wrestling. The commission is citing a pending lawsuit from the UFC to stop the commission from taxing all residents of Oklahoma for purchasing any pay-per-view events put on by the UFC.

**Bellator 60 only averaged 169,000 viewers on MTV 2 for their Season 6 debut last Friday night in Hammond, Indiana. This is going to be a tough season for them on a stacked Friday night. This week’s card features the finals of last season’s Heavyweight tournament with Eric Prindle meeting Thiago Santos in a rematch from their November 2011 then ended in a no contest following a low blow by Santos.

**Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports reports that UFC 146 card from Las Vegas will feature an all-heavyweight main card with the following bouts scheduled for the pay-per-view portion:
*Junior dos Santos Vs Alistair Overeem for the Heavyweight Title
*Cain Velasquez Vs Frank Mir
*Antonio Silva Vs Roy Nelson
*Shane Del Rosario Vs Gabriel Gonzaga
*Stefan Struve Vs Mark Hunt

**Demian Maia has announced that he will be moving down to the welterweight division for his next fight with the UFC. Maia last competed for the organization at the UFC on FOX 2 special in January with a less than spectacular unanimous decision victory over late replacement Demian Maia where the weight cut clearly affected both men but Weidman has the excuse of accepting the fight on eleven days notice and had to cut around 29-pounds.

**UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta chats with Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com about the current state of women’s MMA and takes a different approach than UFC President Dana White.
