LAW Apr. 2 Update - Huge Raw Tonight in Miami
John Pollock / April 2, 2012 - 6:52pm
**First off I want to thank everyone for checking out all of our coverage from Miami over the weekend, I apologize for the lack of updates but we were literally going from one location to another the entire weekend. We have ten interviews posted from WWE Axxess here on the site if you scroll through the past two-days of updates and are all up at YouTube.com/FightNetwork along with our exclusive chat with Dave ‘Fit’ Finlay regarding the rumours of his return to the WWE. We shot a ton of other interview while we were in Miami, which will be coming out shortly as well. It was great to meet a lot of listeners down in Miami as well and we appreciate your support of The LAW and all of the shows we do.
**The big three-hour edition of The LAW last night is online and I know a lot of you were having trouble downloading the show but we have corrected those issues and the file is a better size now that will download at the usual speed. Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski and Jason Agnew have a huge rundown of the entire WrestleMania card with the highlights and lowlights of the show, Dave Meltzer stopped by and the most international caller base we have ever had with calls from all different points of the world – thanks very much to those who called in last night. You can download the show right now at http://fightnetwork.com/news/30988:apr.-1-edition-of-the-law-wrestlemania-28-post-show/ and it is also up on iTunes.
**Tonight is perhaps the biggest ‘Raw’ of the year with the fallout from WrestleMania 28 and the tease of next year’s main event being announced as early as tonight as the company was extremely happy with the one-year promotion attached to The Rock Vs John Cena. Brock Lesnar is in Miami and one would figure that means he will be on the show tonight in some form or fashion.
**A number of outlets have picked up the story regarding a group of people watching WrestleMania on Sunday as a 14-year old applied a sleeper hold to his 24-year old cousin, who passed out as a result and was later pronounced dead at the hospital from the hold. Among those to pick up the story is Deadspin.
**The one-hour edited version of the WWE Hall of Fame special airs at 8pm EST as a lead in to ‘Raw’ on the USA Network featuring the inductions of Edge, The Four Horsemen and Mike Tyson (and you can expect Tyson’s speech to be edited down significantly). The edited version will not do the ceremony justice and this is one to check out when it comes out on the WrestleMania DVD next month.
**Wai Ting and I are back with a big edition of Review a Raw tonight recapping tonight’s show and what goes on during the show with your feedback. Plus we will provide our thoughts from a live perspective of WrestleMania 28 and notes from our trip in Miami. Tune in LIVE tonight at Midnight EST on http://www.stickam.com/reviewawai.
**If you were living under a Dwayne Johnson this past weekend – Dave Meltzer reported Saturday that the WWE and Brock Lesnar have come to terms on a on a one-year contract with a limited amount of dates for the year. Lesnar was flown to Miami on the weekend and picked up by a large entourage of WWE security and taken to the host hotel, which was under lockdown mode all weekend. This led to lots of speculation that Lesnar would appear on the show last night but that obviously didn’t happen. This will be a real interesting year as historically when guys have come in with well structured contracts with limited dates (paging Bill Goldberg circa 2003) it has led to heat within the locker room when a guy isn’t working a full schedule and not at the stature to have a limited schedule such as The Undertaker does and other top talent have had in the past. There is a very easy way to book Lesnar and making him a weekly character would dilute that in my opinion and build his 3-4 matches over the course of the year as big deals and culminate in a major dream match at WrestleMania 29, where he either loses for the first time if he is done after the year or you keep things going if he catches fire and business picks up.
**TNA is in Orlando, Florida tonight at the Impact Zone to tape this week’s edition of ‘Impact Wrestling’ and then return tomorrow night to tape the final show before ‘Lockdown’. Tonight’s show will feature a ‘State of the Union’ address from Hulk Hogan, the return of the Motor City Machine Guns and Eric Young’s bachelor party.
**I have not yet seen the Ring of Honor and Dragon Gate USA shows as we were tied up with other shoots so the timing didn’t work out but planning to see as much as I can over the next week time permitting. The consensus match to check out is Davey Richards Vs Michael Elgin from Saturday and is being called a match of the year candidate with Kevin Steen and El Generico also having a great match Friday night. The ROH shows took a major hit due to technical problems on both shows with sync problems and the feed going out. Apparently when the problems began on Friday night a lot of people tuned out and went and ordered the $1.99 Dragon Gate USA show as they received a ton of buys mid show and posted today that the Friday night show did 2,000 buys, which is their highest number yet.
**Friday night’s edition of ‘Smackdown’ did a 1.76 rating and averaged 2,480,000 viewers for the final show before WrestleMania.
**Dave Bautista tweeted over the weekend that he was in Miami and presumably is still in the city.
**Christopher Nowinski was among those in the audience Saturday night at the Hall of Fame but not sure if he also attended WrestleMania.
**Billy Gunn was visiting at WrestleMania Sunday and posted a great picture online with Dolph Ziggler. Other former talent at the show included Maria Kanellis, Jimmy Yang, Torrie Wilson, Maryse, Eden Stiles (former announcer and dating Cody Rhodes) and Amy ‘Lita’ Dumas.
**Next year’s WrestleMania weekend is only going to get bigger with Ring of Honor, Dragon Gate USA, EVOLVE and Combat Zone Wrestling all planning to do iPPV events during the weekend and you can probably bank on WrestleReunion being back along with all the usual activities going on. Dragon Gate USA has discussed doing a group ticket where you pay a flat price and can see all the shows under their umbrella, which include DG USA, EVOLVE and potentially CZW, who did a combined show with DG USA this year.
**The WrestleMania 28 DVD and Blu Ray is set for a May 8th release date.
**El Generico, who had a busy Saturday working for both Ring of Honor and Dragon Gate USA on the same day has been added to the EVOLVE card in Toronto on April 14th and will take on Low Ki. As of right now Fit Finlay is still scheduled for that show to work against Sami Callihan in a rematch from their bout last summer for EVOLVE.
**New Japan Pro Wrestling will be bringing Low Ki back on an upcoming tour.
**Uhaa Nation did not work the Dragon Gate USA iPPV events on Friday and Saturday because he blew his knee out at the DVD taping on Thursday night, which was a combined show with Combat Zone Wrestling.
