John Pollock / May 7, 2012 - 4:37pm

**The WWE ‘Raw’ television tapings are in Greensboro, North Carolina tonight with no matches announced as of yet for the show. There will be a followup to the big angle with Lesnar and Triple H from last week and they have Rener Gracie doing a GRACIE BREAKDOWN on the kimura lock up on the WWE.com site.

**For those that want to win tickets to Ring of Honor’s ‘Border Wars’ event this Saturday, we are giving away three pairs of tickets to the show tonight at The Fox and Fiddle in downtown Toronto at 535 Danforth Avenue. Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski hosts the weekly ‘Raw’ Monday night party’s at The Fox and Fiddle where you get to watch ‘Raw’ on the big screen with a bunch of wrestling fans and take part in our weekly trivia contest. Come on down tonight for your chance to win tickets to ROH this Saturday night at the Ted Reeve Arena.

**Last night's edition of The LAW with Dan 'The Mouth' Lovranski and Jason Agnew is up on the site featuring our chats with Lance Storm and Kevin Steen discussing 'Border Wars' next Sunday as well as Steen addressing the recent comments by Austin Aries about ROH. Plus Dave Meltzer, your phone calls and a big TNA debate - download the show at http://fightnetwork.com/data/podcasts/1112/2012-05-07.mp3.

**The WWE has released Dustin Rhodes, who was working as a producer with the company since leaving the ring after an injury in 2010. There was an issue regarding a match he put together at the ‘Smackdown’ television tapings on April 24th in Grand Rapids, Michigan involving the Titus O’Neil & Darren Young Vs Yoshi Tatsu & Ezekiel Jackson.

**My chat with ROH’s Cary Silkin about the sale to Sinclair Broadcasting in 2011, the transition of the company and more:

**The failures of the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) continue with the upstart network closing in on $330-million in losses since their launch in January 2011. The WWE and Vince McMahon specifically have cited the mistakes made by OWN in comparison to their own network launch and OWN not basing the network around their core product, which is Oprah herself and that they have a core product and that is what they will present.

**TNA is listing the following pay-per-view dates for the rest of the year in their programs:
*June 10th – ‘Slammiversary’ from Arlington, Texas
*July 8th – ‘Victory Road’ (this will be the night after UFC 148 and is expected to be the biggest UFC show of the year headlined by Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen)
*August 12th – ‘Hardcore Justice’
*September 9th – ‘No Surrender’
*October 14th – ‘Bound for Glory’
*November 11th – ‘Turning Point’
*December 9th – ‘Final Resolution’

**Ring of Honor posted a sneak peek of their ‘Best in the World’ poster (which is their next iPPV on June 24th) featuring Davey Richards wearing the ROH Title along with Fit Finlay and Maria Kanellis on the poster.

**We’ve got another packed week here on the site, here is a look at what is coming up this week:
*Monday – We’ve got interviews up on the site right now with Lance Storm and Ronda Rousey in full along with The LAW from Sunday night
*Tuesday – Review a Raw will be posted late tonight plus our full chat with Kevin Steen
*Wednesday – Review a Wai with a review of the ROH ‘Showdown in the Sun – Night 2’ event from last month featuring the Davey Richards Vs Michael Elgin match of the year candidate
*Thursday – An interview with ROH commentator Kevin Kelly chatting ROH ‘Showdown in the Sun’ and later in the day Dan Lovranski and I will be back with a bonus show previewing ROH this weekend as well
*Friday – Review an Impact with Nate Milton, Wai Ting and myself

**We will also have a video interview with Jim Cornette posted later this week.

**CMT has inked a development deal with Steve Austin and are producing a show called ‘Redneck Island’ with Austin hosting the show and putting twelve contestants on an island to compete for $100,000.

**CM Punk will be throwing out the first pitch and singing during the seventh inning stretch at the Chicago Cubs game on Tuesday.

**Former ‘Saved by the Bell’ actor Dennis Haskins was at the WWE house show in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Sunday and also appeared on AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ Sunday night.

**The WWE’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for Media Relations and Public Affairs Rob Zimmerman has left the company.

**The three-disc WrestleMania 28 DVD and Blu Ray will be released tomorrow and features the entire event, the Hall of Fame ceremony along with the WrestleMania press conference and pre-show match with Primo & Epico Vs Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel.

**There were lots of posts and remembrances for Owen Hart online today as it would have been 47-years old today. Hart died on May 23rd 1999 at the WWE ‘Over the Edge’ event in Kansas City, Missouri at Kemper Arena and at the time was the biggest story in the history of professional wrestling when he died.

LAW MMA UPDATE

**The news was broken on Monday afternoon by Phytegurus.com that UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz is out of the July 7th UFC 148 card in Las Vegas, Nevada with a torn ACL. This throws a major wrench into the current season of TUF but will actually add some interest for at least this coming week’s show. With a torn ACL that means Cruz will likely on the sidelines for a minimum of 6-9 months and could lead to an interim title being introduced for the UFC 148 with Urijah Faber fighting a top bantamweight such as Michael McDonald.

**Our full interview with Ronda Rousey from this past weekend is up on the website and iTunes at http://fightnetwork.com/data/podcasts/1114/2012-05-07.mp3.

**The fast national number for the UFC on FOX 3 card is a big disappointment with the current figure listed at 2,225,000 viewers (it may get a slight bump with the West Coast numbers figured in as the current number reflects a national average of what was airing from 8-10pm and the card aired 5-7pm on the West Coast). At the current number it is the lowest rated major MMA card on a major network (the IFL did air on Ion Television, which was technically a network but a lowly rated one and not considered major). This is lower than any Strikeforce or Elite XC card that aired on CBS and lower than the preceding UFC events on FOX. Here is a  look at averages of prior MMA card on network television:
*Elite XC (Kimbo Slice Vs James Thompson, May 2009) – 6,510,000 viewers
*UFC on FOX 1 (Cain Velasquez Vs Junior Dos Santos, Nov 2011) – 5,700,000 viewers
*UFC on FOX 2 (Rashad Evans Vs Phil Davis, Jan 2012) – 4,570,000 viewers
*Elite XC (Kimbo Slice Vs Seth Petruzelli, Oct 2008) – 4,560,000 viewers
*Strikeforce (Fedor Vs Brett Rogers, Nov 2009) – 4,040,000 viewers
*Strikeforce (Jake Shields Vs Dan Henderson, April 2010) – 2,900,000 viewers
*Elite XC (Robbie Lawler Vs Scott Smith, July 2008) – 2,620,000 viewers

The UFC on FOX 3 number could receive a slight bump but doesn’t look as if it will hit 3,000,000 viewers and that is a staggering number when you consider what FOX is paying. To put it into perspective more people watched ‘Smackdown’ a week ago than UFC on Saturday night and we’ve seen the problems the WWE has had in creating stars on ‘Smackdown’ and the result being the super show on Monday night to get their top talent in front of the largest numbers possible on Mondays.

The focus now shifts to the UFC on FOX 4 special scheduled for August 4th in Los Angeles with Brian Stann Vs Hector Lombard and Ryan Bader Vs Lyoto Machida as the two key fights on the broadcast. Brian Stann is an extremely marketable fighter and has a fantastic story but the key will be getting that story across to a large cross section and creating new viewers as opposed to the audience that will be watching regardless. One of the key differences with the FOX deal as opposed to Spike TV has been the ability to introduce and create stars. On Spike they were the key tenant for the network and got tons of exposure and they were able to attract a significant audience for their countdown specials, Unleashed specials and other programming and delivered numbers that FUEL TV has not been able to come close to replicating. This becomes an issue when introducing Hector Lombard, who can be marketed but you have to reach an audience in order to do so and interviews on ‘UFC Tonight’ and special on FUEL are not going to mean anything (perhaps in 2-3 years when FUEL is in more homes and UFC can get credit for the growth of the network but that’s not a reality at present time). For those remember back in 2007 when the UFC signed Heath Herring they aired commercial after commercial of the infamous Yoshihiro ‘Kiss’ Nakao fight where Herring knocked the guy out after a kiss and aired it time and time again and led to a bump in numbers for his debut on Spike TV.

**TUF Live from this past Friday did 954,000 viewers on Friday night featuring Andy Ogle defeating Mike Rio in the final opening round fight to get into the quarter-finals.

**UFC President Dana White did state after the card Saturday that Nate Diaz has opted to sit out and wait to fight for the Lightweight Title in his next fight. Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar are not scheduled to have their rematch until September and that would likely keep Diaz on the shelf to December at the earliest and more likely early 2013.
