LAW June 7 Update - Chris Daniels Speaks with The LAW
John Pollock / June 7, 2012 - 3:45pm
**TNA held a conference call for members of the media on Wednesday with Sting on the line. Sting noted that he was extremely close to facing The Undertaker last year at WrestleMania 27 and said on a scale of one to ten that he was at a ‘nine’ in terms of how close they were to a deal. He was very high on Bobby Roode and the work he has done since being put into the top position and that James Storm is really close to being there as a top guy. When asked about ‘Raw’ moving to three-hours he said he doesn’t think there is a demand for a third hour and that the industry in much colder than in 1998 when ‘Monday Nitro’ increased to three-hours (not to mention adding two-hours with ‘Thunder’ that very same week in January 1998). He also said he doesn’t deserve to be the first member of the TNA Hall of Fame and said A.J. Styles and Jeff Jarrett deserve it, ahead of himself.
**We have an interview up on the site with Christopher Daniels chatting with me about his current storyline involving A.J. Styles and the success it has had on television, TNA going live this summer, his release from the company in 2010 and return last year as well as this coming Sunday’s ‘Slammiversary’ pay-per-view event. You can download the interview at http://fightnetwork.com/data/podcasts/1146/2012-06-07.mp3 as well as on iTunes.
**Impact Wrestling is live tonight at 8pm EST on Spike TV from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida and here is what has been announced for the show tonight:
*Bobby Roode & Christopher Daniels & Kazarian Vs Sting & Kurt Angle & A.J. Styles
*A #1 Contender’s Match for the Knockout’s Title with the winner facing Gail Kim at ‘Slammiversary’
*The contract signing between Bully Ray and Joseph Park
*The show will kick off at 8pm EST with Dixie Carter addressing the ending of last week’s show
**Wai Ting, Nate Milton and I will be back later tonight with Review-An-Impact chatting tonight's live show.
**This Sunday night we welcome Joey Ryan to The LAW at 11pm EST:
**Randy Orton has posted the following comment online regarding his recent suspension by the WWE:
When I'm able to tell you, I will. Until then, don't believe everything you read!
**JBL is doing a massive fundraiser for the Bremuda Family Center as he attempts to climb seven mountains (the highest point of every continent) including Mt. Everest and will place a WWE flag on top of each of the mountains. The WWE is sponsoring the fundraiser with $250,000 being donated by the company. JBL was asked about a potential return to the company on Twitter and he stated in the wake of this announcement that he would categorize a return as ‘likely’. I’d be very surprised if that means anything more than a cameo or at most a return to commentary, which JBL has always said he is open to and something he took to very quickly in 2006 when he was paired with Michael Cole on ‘Smackdown’.
**The WWE and TNA will meet in court on July 12th as the hearing for this Monday has been postponed. The WWE stated that John Laurinaitis and Triple H could not appear in court this Monday because of their television duties at ‘Raw’ and the court has granted the extension. TNA is seeking damages for confidential company information being passed along to the WWE through former TNA employee Brian Wittenstein, who was hired by the WWE and passed along a disc full of company information. The WWE alleges they immediately fired Wittenstein and contacted TNA about the information (the time frame is in dispute with TNA claiming it was three-weeks and the WWE saying it was three-days in their response to the lawsuit).
**Ring of Honor has announced that the third match between Lance Storm and Mike Bennett will take place on June 29th at the ROH television tapings in Baltimore, Maryland. This seems to be a strategy to keep the house up for the Baltimore tapings, which is always tough when you are running the same city and venue every month and this is at least a draw for the local audience other than the same crew they see every month.
**Fozzy is currently on tour in the U.K. and kicked things off with a show in London Wednesday and in Wolverhampton today and then play the Download Festival this weekend. This tour was scheduled months in advance and Chris Jericho was going to be doing this tour regardless of the suspension that came down a few weeks back.
**One of the best WWE angles of the past decade took place on this date in 2010:
**The WWE has given Kelly Kelly (Barbara Jean Blank) an extended period of time off. Kelly has been on the roster since 2006 when she was brought up to the ECW roster at the age of 18 and it’s been categorized as simply giving her a break.
**Howard Finkel turns 62-years old today.
LAW MMA UPDATE
**The litany of injuries effecting future UFC cards continues with Michael Bisping off of the UFC 149 card in Calgary and will no longer be fighting Tim Boetsch. Bisping suffered a knee injury in training and attempted to rehab the knee but after having a recent MRI he was forced to withdraw from the card. Boetsch will now be fighting UFC import Hector Lombard, who has been taken off of the UFC on FOX 4 card in August due to Brian Stann injuring his shoulder.
**The weigh-ins for the UFC on FX 3 card take place later today in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for tomorrow night’s card at the BankAtlantic Center (the home of the final Elite XC event in October 2008 where Seth Petruzelli knocked out Kimbo Slice). Here is the card for tomorrow night’s show:
*Demetrious Johnson Vs Ian McCall in a five-round flyweight tournament bout
*Erick Silva Vs Charlie Brenneman
*Josh Neer Vs Mike Pyle
*Scott Jorgensen Vs Eddie Wineland
PRELIMINARY CARD (FUEL TV)
*Mike Pierce Vs Carlos Eduardo Rocha
*Lance Benoist Vs Seth Baczynski
*Leonard Garcia Vs Matt Grice
*Jared Papazian Vs Dustin Pague
*Tim Means Vs Justin Salas
*Buddy Roberts Vs Caio Magalhaes
*Henry Martinez Vs Bernardo Magalhaes
*Sean Pierson Vs Jake Hecht
**With Hector Lombard Vs Brian Stann off of the UFC on FOX 4 card in August the UFC has now moved Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua to the FOX card with new opponent Brandon Vera. Shogun was set to fight Thiago Silva at UFC 149 but Silva had to pull out due to reoccurring back problems that have been a major setback for him over the past few years. As of right now Shogun Vs Vera will be the main event on FOX that night, which sounds like a terrible idea.
**Edwin Figueroa is off of the UFC on FX 4 card on June 22nd in Atlantic City due to injury. Francisco Rivera will take his spot on the card against Ken Stone in a bantamweight bout.
**Rani Yahya Vs Josh Grispi is a new fight added to the UFC on FOX 4 card in August after Pablo Garza had to pull out of his scheduled bout with Grispi on the card.
