The LAW's TNA Slammiversary Preview

Live Audio Wrestling / June 10, 2012 - 2:01am

Tonight TNA celebrates their 10th anniversary with ‘Slammiversary’ from the College Park Arena in Arlington, Texas. Their official anniversary is June 19th where they kicked off their Wednesday night weekly pay-per-view events in 2002 with their first show taking place in Huntsville, Alabama before moving to the more modest Nashville Fairgrounds. The interesting news coming out Friday morning was a veiled tweet from Dixie Carter leading to the expectation that Christian will be a part of the show tonight as part of their deal with the WWE to allow Ric Flair to appear at this past March’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Catch The LAW tonight at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto and online here on the site for a full rundown of the show. Here is our preview of the show.

BOBBY ROODE VS STING FOR THE TNA TITLE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
Obviously, after beating Roode clean on TV and making him submit in the tag match, Sting is not winning the world title. Roode comes out strong here and then he faces Jeff Hardy on TV, retains once again, and back comes James Storm.

Jason Agnew
Bobby has gotta keep this.

John Pollock
This isn’t going to be a match of the year candidate but hopefully the temptation of doing a title change on their anniversary show is not there because there isn’t any reason I would take the title off of Roode. They have attempted to get Sting as believable as possible for being a threat by beating Roode clean two-weeks in a row but I don’t sense a giant interest for this match but both will have their working boots on and should be a fine match especially since Sting has had some time to rest and will be very motivated for this one.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & KAZARIAN VS A.J. STYLES & KURT ANGLE FOR THE TAG TITLES

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
I can't say I'm a big fan of this whole angle with AJ and Dixie, and I can see this match just being a backdrop to further that angle, so I'm guessing that Daniels and Kaz go over when AJ costs himself and Angle the match.

Jason Agnew
Do we get a run-in from Serge here?

John Pollock
On paper this is a hell of a match but for such a heavy grudge style program involving Kazarian, Daniels and Styles it doesn’t really lend itself for having a great technical / high flying match as they often provide. Kurt Angle is lost in the mix here but I’m intrigued with the Dixie storyline and how they progress it on this show. This certainly has the possibility to be match of the night and Daniels and Kazarian should keep the titles since they have become the top heels in the company.

MR. ANDERSON VS ROB VAN DAM VS JEFF HARDY IN A #1 CONTENDER’S MATCH

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
It seems like all these three guys have is #1 contender matches with each other. I see them going with Jeff Hardy since it leads to a TV title defence, and Hardy has the best chance of the three in creating fan interest, aka ratings, in a shot with Roode. Hardy wins.

Jason Agnew
Blah... who cares.

John Pollock
These three have wrestled in every combination possible along with three-ways in the past and personally feel this match would be better received without Anderson in the mix. I generally dislike three-way matches no matter who is involved, they are a staple of mid-90’s wrestling that has just become a style of match to fit extra bodies onto a show. This is designed to set up a big match for ‘Impact’ and get the number up for the live shows and unlike most times I don’t object to the PPV building to the television show because establishing the timeslot is a bigger goal this summer than their pay-per-view business. For maximum ratings value you go with Hardy winning the match.

BULLY RAY VS JOSEPH PARK

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
This should be interesting in terms of the execution and how they bring Abyss back. Does he just start the match right from the start and we don't even see Joseph Park? Does Park start the match, and eventually he gets chased backstage and remerges as Abyss?  I don't really care who wins, I just want to see how they bring Abyss back. I see Bully Ray going down here, but the feud continuing.

Jason Agnew
Don't quite understand this whole thing, I'd expect about half-way through the match Joseph ducks under the ring and suddenly Abyss appears.

John Pollock
I love the Joseph Park character and Bully Ray has been quietly been the best part of TNA since his heel turn with program after program delivering and doing the best work of his career. Either this match will feature the reveal of Park as Abyss or they go the direction of keeping the two as separate characters with a ‘wink’ to the audience, who is aware they are the same person. It seems that every Bully Ray program features him bullying a babyface, the babyface fights back and gets their revenge on the bully with a win at the end. If they want to keep this story going they could easily have Ray beat Park and forces Abyss to come for revenge on Ray.

AUSTIN ARIES VS SAMOA JOE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
This has the potential to be the match of the night, and that's saying something on a card that really, in-ring-wise, should be pretty damn good. I'm guessing Aries goes over since Joe hasn't won a match since the late '50s. I would actually like to see this feud continue since they aren't doing anything interesting with either guy right now.

Jason Agnew
This is going to be a great match, I expect both guys to go full out here and do some very col stuff in the ring... why isn't the belt on the line here?

John Pollock
This match is not listed on the TNA site as a X Division Title Match so I’m assuming it isn’t for whatever reason. In the ring this could be excellent but there was little build to this one and I was disappointed that Joe was turned heel without any kind of explanation and that Aries was given poor followup after that excellent match with Bully Ray at ‘Sacrifice’ last month. The X Division Title is quickly becoming a nostalgia title where it was once a great calling card for TNA but was part of a bygone era and see little reason for the title in 2012. Aries gets the win in this one and could steal the show.

GAIL KIM VS MISS TESSMACHER FOR THE KNOCKOUT’S TITLE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
I think Brooke is winning the belt here and Madison will screw up Gail in someway causing her to lose.

Jason Agnew
Hopefully Gail can carry Brooke to a good match here.  I expect a new champion.

John Pollock
I’m expecting Kim to finally lose the title on this show in Tessmacher’s home state of Texas and leads to Kim and the soon to be turning Mickie James to form a heel alliance that feuds with Brooke Hogan.

DEVON & GARRET BISCHOFF VS ROBBIE E & ROBBIE T

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
I could actually see E & T getting the win here because they've lost and looked like chumps on TV for this whole feud. That way they can also extend the feud since they don't have anything else for these guys anyway.

Jason Agnew
More tension between Robbie E + Robbie T after they lose this match.

John Pollock
Devon and Garret win this match in 5-minutes and then Robbie E gets yet another TV Title shot on television this week.

CRIMSON VS TBA IN AN OPEN CHALLENGE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
Don't care.

Jason Agnew
I wanna see Christian Cage answer this challenge.

John Pollock
I don’t think the climax of my idea occurs on Sunday night but this starts a storyline with Crimson where he issues open challenges every month and destroys each guy that answers it until King Mo finally shows up and arm bars him in seconds and ends the streak.

HERNANDEZ VS KID KASH

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
Huh?

Jason Agnew
What? Why?

John Pollock
I had no clue Kid Kash was still on the roster. Perhaps this begins a singles run for Hernandez, who is without a partner as Anarquia is gone. Hernandez has never clicked with me and just don’t know how much you can get out him at this stage in his career.
