The LAW's WWE No Way Out Preview

Live Audio Wrestling / June 17, 2012 - 12:06pm

This Sunday night the WWE presents ‘No Way Out’ from the iZod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey with another show produced by the WWE where someone’s job is on the line (in this case either John Cena or John Laurinaitis will be fired following the main event). The LAW has a full preview of the show and then catch our rundown of the event this Sunday night at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto and online here on the website.

JOHN CENA VS BIG SHOW IN A STEEL CAGE MATCH (If John Cena wins than John Laurinaitis is fired, if Show wins than Cena is fired)

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
I hate this feud so much even though there has been a few neat moments, mostly centering around Show giving some good heel promos. Since this one has the double fired stipulation, I suspect the match ends in a double DQ so no one wins or loses and no one gets fired and we do the same stupid stipulation next month.

Jason Agnew
Really?  A duelling "you're fired" scenario... how bout they both lose so they both get fired and we can get these two off TV.

John Pollock
First of all I think Big Show has been excellent since the heel turn last month and has cut some of the best promos of his career and was a significantly better choice than going with Tensai for this role. That being said it is still a John Cena Vs Big Show match, which I first saw live at WrestleMania in 2004 and have been tons of times since. The last minute firing stipulations mean nothing to me because they have prostituted the ‘firing’ stips so badly that it’s more of a turnoff than a draw at this point in time and that’s a terrible use of a stipulation. I suppose the drama is whether Vince McMahon will seek revenge or not on Big Show for knocking him out cold. I don’t want to see McMahon back as a regular character but the ratings from this past Monday throw my wants out the window and I suspect we are going to get more and not less of McMahon with Cena winning could lead to McMahon returning as a semi-regular character.

CM PUNK VS DANIEL BRYAN VS KANE FOR THE WWE TITLE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
What a waste putting Kane in this feud and diluting what would be a great match with just Punk and Bryan alone. I'm guessing this one comes down to AJ as we finally find out who she is siding with. I still think it's been her and Bryan working together to mess with the other two. Regardless, it looks like Punk will keep the title but the feud will continue.

Jason Agnew
So at the last PPV they set up a controversial finish in the Bryan / Punk match, and thus set themselves up with a rematch at the next PPV... but instead they inject Kane into it, and decide to revolve the whole feud around AJ.  Granted, I like AJ... and the storyline is curious, but I coulda gone for a Punk / Bryan main event with some great work as opposed to the storyline with a crazy bitch.

John Pollock
I’ve enjoyed the storyline involving AJ and the weird love triangle but it doesn’t feel like it should be a main event storyline for the top title and that is what it’s been presented as. For a selfish standpoint I’d love for AJ and Kane to hook up because that is the version of Kane I find the most entertaining with a crazy and insane love angle but for storyline purposes it probably makes the most sense to go with Daniel Bryan prostituting his girlfriend to play mind games and she was working for Bryan all along to help him win the title back and succeeds at this show.

SHEAMUS VS DOLPH ZIGGLER FOR THE WORLD TITLE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
Despite Ziggler getting this spot because Orton got suspended, I still think they should think about putting the title on Ziggler. He's a great in ring performer, great promos and he exudes sliminess, perfect for a heel champion. However, I think they just see him as a mid-carder, so I see Sheamus retaining, although one of their swerves here that would result in Ziggler winning the title would be fine with me.

Jason Agnew
It may have taken 3 different people to be off the roster for Dolph to get into this role, but let's take advantage of that and put him over here.  I'm on TEAM DOLPH!

John Pollock
It’s funny that with the WWE so concerned about television ratings one of the patterns you will see over the past six-years is that when a new and fresh face is given the title that it typically leads to a jump in ratings with the strongest cases being Edge in 2006 and CM Punk in 2008 where they were given the title for the first time and each held the title for a short period of time and then it was taken off of them. The Sheamus title run hasn’t lit the world on fire but I wouldn’t say he’s done a bad job it’s more a state of where he falls on the pecking order and who there is to work with. A surprise title change and giving it to Ziggler for the summer wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world and would shake things up and give a program for Sheamus all summer long as opposed to Ziggler being a stop gap with Del Rio on the sidelines. I fully expect Sheamus to retain but feel they could get more mileage with a title switch.

CHRISTIAN VS CODY RHODES FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
I know this title means jackshit, but I actually enjoy watching these two feud with each other. I suspect Christian retains but hope that the feud doesn't end here.

Jason Agnew
Well since Cody is no longer the champion, I guess he's allowed to win here... but he won't.

John Pollock
I’m sure this will be fine for the 10-12 minutes it is given but I have no interest in this program at all other than they should have a fine match. The Cody Rhodes losing streak took whatever air out of his sails for me (mind you this losing streak took place WHILE HE WAS THE CHAMPION). I prefer the babyface Christian over the goofy and complaining heel and would not deviate from that and will say Christian keep the title.

LAYLA VS BETH PHOENIX FOR THE DIVA’S TITLE

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
It certainly looks like Layla is retaining here.

Jason Agnew
I like Layla a lot, but she's totally set up to fail here.  I'll say Beth takes it.

John Pollock
I enjoy both of these women and the more they work together the more I enjoy their chemistry. Unfortunately I have been given zero reason for wanting to see this match other than Phoenix pinning Layla in a random tag match this past Monday. Layla came back at the April PPV and pinned Phoenix, they had a rematch last month at the PPV where Layla beat her clean so why do I need to see this again? You cannot convince me that the women fighting for the title can be given some television time (which there is no shortage of) for a compelling program that leads to a match. It feels like all the creative is geared towards he top programs and then we slot a bunch of undercard matches onto the undercard with random pairings and it really divests me from caring about anything outside of the top 2-3 matches.

BRODUS CLAY VS DAVID OTUNGA (YouTube Pre-show)

Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski
Otunga gets funkafied.

Jason Agnew
This will make me click on YouTube... so exciting.

John Pollock
Confirmation that I can grab something for dinner on the way to the radio station after my improv rehearsal ends at 7pm.
