LAW July 3 Update - GAB Tonight

John Pollock / July 3, 2012 - 8:09pm

**Tonight the WWE has a special live edition of ‘Smackdown’ from Corpus Christi, Texas billed as ‘The Great American Bash’ (originally a set of touring shows from the NWA in the mid-80’s and then became an annual singular event up until the company went out of business in 2001 and was then resurrected as a pay-per-view concept by the WWE from 2004-2008). The following has been announced for tonight’s show:
*20-Man Battle Royal with the winner becoming the General Manager for next week and will feature CM Punk and John Cena in the battle royal (so after three-weeks they gave up on the idea of former General Managers running the show)
*Layla & The Great Khali Vs Aksana & Antonio Cesaro

**Last night’s edition of Review-A-Raw is up on the site at http://fightnetwork.com/news/31949:podcast-july-3-edition-of-review-a-raw/ with Wai Ting and I reviewing last night’s show and taking your feedback.

**It was in fact Steve Lombardi who played Doink the Clown on Monday night for the match with Heath Slater.

**The WWE announced today that due to the Waldo Canyon fire that they are cancelling next Tuesday’s ‘Smackdown’ television tapings in Colorado Springs, Colorado and will be taping the show the night prior at the ‘Raw’ tapings in Denver, Colorado and will also be donating $10,000 to the American Red Cross. In a coincidence it was in June 2009 that the WWE was forced to move ‘Raw’ from Denver at the last minute due to the Denver Nuggets having a playoff game at the arena and moving ‘Raw’ to Los Angeles and became a two-hour jab fest by the company against Nugget’s owner Stan Kroenke.

**Sheamus Vs Alberto Del Rio for the World Title was officially added to the ‘Money in the Bank’ pay-per-view on ‘Raw’ last night.

**Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez reported on ‘Wrestling Observer Radio’ that the WWE has made a play to once again get Bruno Sammartino into the WWE Hall of Fame for next year (and next year would be a great year to do it with Sammartino’s past in the Northeast). According to their report Triple H was the one to contact Sammartino and sell him on the idea of the reaction he would get from the audience but Sammartino is not interested in going into the Hall of Fame and has always stuck to his guns regarding his lack of desire to go into their Hall of Fame. Sal Corrente sent out a public message in response to the rumours stating that Sammartino had been contacted but was not going into the Hall of Fame next year. The last time the company made a huge play for Sammartino was in 2004 when they brought him to a ‘Raw’ taping in Pittsburgh and made the pitch for him and he declined. That same night the show was headlined by an Ironman Match between Chris Benoit and Triple H and went asked if he was staying for the main event Sammartino asked who was in the main event and when given the answer said he would have stayed if it was Benoit and Kurt Angle.

**The WWE is set to get some much needed depth on the star side with a number of performers just about set to return including Rey Mysterio (whose suspension concluded over a week ago), Mark Henry (who had a recent surgery) and Wade Barrett (who has been out since March and also required surgery). Randy Orton has just under a month remaining on his sixty-day suspension.

**Brock Lesnar and Bret Hart are both being advertised for the 1000th edition of ‘Raw’ in St. Louis, Missouri and you can expect a number of other major names to be on the show as they want as much star power as possible on this one.

**TNA has released Shannon Moore from his contract after Moore had requested his release.

**The WWE has also released a performer with Armando Estrada being let go for the second time. Estrada had been signed and was used for one-week as a manager for Tyson Kidd and then never used again and has been under contract for the last 18-months.
