LAW July 5 Update - WWE Vs TNA Legal Update

John Pollock / July 5, 2012 - 10:49am

**Tonight ‘Impact’ is live from Orlando, Florida headlined by Jeff Hardy taking on James Storm in a Bound for Glory Series Match along with Miss Tessmacher defending the Knockout’s Title against Gail Kim and an update on Chris Sabin. Tonight is their final show before ‘Destination X’ on Sunday and will feature more X division qualifying matches for the tournament on Sunday.

**My new program ‘The MMA Report with John Pollock’ is available down in podcast form on The LAW iTunes feed (it will be getting a separate feed shortly) and can also be downloaded at The show will also be airing on TSN 1050 Toronto Friday night at Midnight EST. The first show features a big preview of UFC 148 with guests Cung Le, Ed Soares and Ariel Helwani.

**Jimmy Korderas and I preview this Sunday’s ‘Destination X’ pay-per-view from Orlando, Florida:

**Review-An-Impact will be posted late tonight with Wai Ting and Nate Milton reviewing the show and taking your feedback, which you can leave on The LAW message board later tonight.

**The latest edition of Review a Wai is up on the site with Wai Ting and myself reviewing Episode # 492 of ‘Raw’ from October 7th 2002 featuring Raw Roulette. This is the episode that featured a TLC Match in the main event and the first time we heard the name ‘Katie Vick’. You can download the show on iTunes, Stitcher or directly at

**Next week’s edition of Review a Wai will feature a review of the October 21st 2002 edition of ‘Raw’, which featured the actual segment involving Triple H in the funeral home with ‘Katie Vick’ – AND we will be joined by former WWE creative members Seth Mates and Chris Gough, who were on the creative staff during this time period. We are taking questions for Chris and Seth and they can be posted at

**We have our second instalment of the LAW ‘Uncut’ interviews with Anthony Kingdom James joining me in studio. In this one-hour chat we discuss him breaking into the business, becoming a promoter, working with Adam Copeland, Scott D’Amore and Joe E. Legend and lots more. You can download the show at James is the promoter behind the Union of Professional Wrestlers group that is running this Saturday at 7pm EST in Toronto at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall #10 at 1083 Pape Avenue featuring Josh Alexander Vs Pepper Parks in the main event along with Michael Elgin Vs Sebastian Suave and independent standouts Ashley Sixx, RJ City, Ethan Page and more.

**Bobby Roode chats with Fight Network on his current title reign, his loss at Bound for Glory and more:

**The WWE and TNA are set to meet in court for a hearing on July 13th regarding TNA’s lawsuit they have filed in Nashville, Tennessee. The WWE was granted a motion earlier this week to have a restraining order against them overturned because they felt the language of the order was prejudicial against the WWE. The WWE also filed a motion to have the entire case dismissed last Thursday on various grounds including the notion that Ric Flair was fired by TNA before the suit was filed against the WWE.

**Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes are the latest additions to the World Title Money in the Bank Ladder Match after Tuesday night’s edition of ‘Smackdown’. The two of them join Christian, Santino Marella, Damien Sandow, Tyson Kidd and Tensai in the match.

**The ‘Raw’ crew starts of their weekend of house shows with a card in Amarillo, Texas on Friday night and then head to Lubbock on Saturday. The ‘Smackdown’ crew begins Saturday in El Paso, Texas. On Sunday they run a combined show in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

**The UFC has completely taken over the city of Las Vegas with International Fight Week leading up to UFC 148 on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. There are tons of fan events going on along with the UFC Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay Events Center all weekend long. The company held their press conference for the event this past Monday due to the 4th of July today (they usually have the presser on the Thursday). There seems to be a strong buzz for the main event and certainly in my opinion it is ahead of the anticipation that Jon Jones and Rashad Evans had for their fight (I felt both of so guys were so vocal about being sick of talking about one another by that final week that it really hurt the last minute interest for the fight and they were even talking about being friends once again by the week of the fight whereas both Silva and Sonnen have heated things up in the final two-weeks rather than simmer it down).

I have watched both the ‘Prime Time’ and ‘Countdown’ specials for the card and the Silva and Sonnen content is phenomenal and anyone who watched those shows will likely be swayed to order the show if they are in the fence. The ‘x’ factor is the question of how many are following these programs and not getting the Prime Time special on FOX is going to hurt because most people finding the show online or watching it on FX and Fight Network here in Canada were likely ordering the show anyway and you’re not hitting the casual crowd. As I said on Sunday on The LAW this is a fight that should do 1,000,000 buys and if it falls short of that than I feel there is a bigger issue to be discussed regarding the FOX deal and where the UFC fits on that totem pole because you know that Prime Time special would’ve been promoted extremely hard on Spike if this was two-years ago and I would say this fight would eclipse one-million.

**Jason Agnew and I will be live with our UFC 148 post show on TSN 1050 Toronto immediately after the main card concludes on Saturday night. Agnew and I will be running down all of the fights, taking your phone calls and chatting with Todd Martin from the Sherdog and Wrestling Observer websites.

**Claude Patrick is the latest casualty of the UFC 149 injury riddled card and has pulled out of his welterweight bout with James Head. Patrick will be replaced by Brian Ebersole, who just fought on June 22nd at the UFC on FX 3 card defeating TJ Waldburger.

**The UFC has announced their first card for China set for November 10th in Macau at The Venetian Macau Resort Hotel and will air on FUEL TV. This is a major breakthrough for the company as both the UFC and WWE have been in a race to get into the country and the WWE held a small show last summer in the country but it was part of a larger event and designed as a showcase for the company to officials in China.
