LAW July 13 Update - Batista Makes MMA Debut

John Pollock / July 13, 2012 - 2:07pm

**The latest edition of Review-An-Impact is up with Wai Ting, Nate Milton and myself chatting last night’s show at and taking your feedback as well as chatting the fallout of ‘Destination X’.

**Here are the matches for 'Smackdown' tonight featuring Zack Ryder as the guest General Manager and taped this past Monday night in Denver, Colorado following 'Raw':
*Alberto Del Rio Vs Sin Cara
*Darren Young Vs Primo
*Christian & Santino Marella Vs Cody Rhodes & Dolph Ziggler
*The Great Khali Vs Big Show
*Ryback Vs Tyler Reks
*Damien Sandow Vs Justin Gabriel
*Sheamus Vs Chris Jericho in a non-title match

**In a very strange situation that only the WWE could pull off it appears that Kharma (Kia Stevens) has either been released by the company or may have been saved due to a screw up by the web department. On Thursday Kharma’s profile on the site was moved to the Alumni section and when asked on Twitter she stated she had been ‘promoted to the alumni section’. Dave Meltzer reported on his website that the WWE was going to announce her release today but the web department got ahead of themselves and made the change to the site prompting the company to at least temporarily hold off on the announcement of her release. We’ll find out later today if the announcement is made or she receives a stay of execution as a result of this blunder.

**The WWE has a dual brand house show on Saturday night in Tucson, Arizona and then head to Phoenix for the pay-per-view on Sunday night. On Monday night they are in Las Vegas for ‘Raw’ and ‘Smackdown’ will be taped Tuesday night in San Diego, California.

**Ring of Honor has a show in Milwaukee on Saturday night featuring Kevin Steen & Jimmy Jacobs Vs The Briscoe Brothers in the main event.

**Austin Aries Vs Bobby Roode for the TNA Title will headline ‘Hardcore Justice’ on August 12th in Orlando, Florida. The two will also have a non-title singles match next week on ‘Impact’.

**I want to apologize but due to a scheduling conflict we were unable to chat with Austin Aries today and instead we will be joined by Zema Ion this Sunday night on The LAW to discuss the state of the X division, problems at the independent level and Jesse Sorensen. Tune in this Sunday night at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto.

** has an interview up with Vince McMahon discussing 1,000 episodes of ‘Raw’.

**TMZ reports that Dave Bautista has signed on to have his first professional MMA bout on October 6th of this year for CES MMA against unknown fighter Rashid Evans (not Rashad). The event is set to take place in Providence, Rhode Island at the Dunkin’ Donuts Theatre. Bautista has been talking about fighting since leaving the WWE in May 2010 and was very close to signing with Strikeforce right as Zuffa purchased the company and was not interested in pursuing those talks. Bautista had been offered giant money to fight for small promotions in the past with one company I was aware of offering over six-figures for his first fight but he was not interested at the time.

**Here is the full Mattel / WWE panel discussion from the San Diego Comic Con featuring CM Punk, Sheamus and Zack Ryder on the panel and an angle involving Alberto Del Rio:

**Ring of Honor has announced they will be running the Manhattan Center on April 5th of next year for their ‘Supercard of Honor VII’ card on WrestleMania weekend and presumably airing on iPPV.

**The upcoming movie ‘The Man With the Iron Fists’ will be hitting theatres on November 2nd featuring Cung Le and Dave Bautista in feature roles alongside the lead Russell Crowe.

**The latest edition of ‘The MMA Report with John Pollock’ is available for download at featuring chats with Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold, Showtime play by play announcer Mauro Ranallo and a full recap of the UFC on FUEL 4 event. The show will also air on TSN 1050 Toronto tonight at Midnight EST and you can listen at

**The Strikeforce card takes place tomorrow night in Portland, Oregon headlined by Luke Rockhold defending his Middleweight Title against Tim Kennedy along with Nate Marquardt and Tyrone Woodley meeting for the vacant welterweight title.

**Here are the results from the UFC on FUEL 4 event held Wednesday night in San Jose, California in front of a reported crowd of 4,250 and a live gate of $163,495:

**UFC President Dana White confirmed to USA Today that the coaches for the next season of TUF will be heavyweights Roy Nelson (who won Season 10 of the show) and Shane Carwin. The next season will be taped in advance as opposed to the live format they experimented with for FX in the most recent season.

**Meanwhile the next international version of TUF entitled ‘The Smashed’ pitting Team U.K. against Team Australia will be coached by Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos and will begin taping shortly.

**In the lead up to UFC 149 next weekend in Calgary Fight Network will be carrying next Thursday’s press conference live at 2pm EST and the weigh-ins on Friday at 6pm EST. I will be hosting both and doing analysis after each with John Ramdeen and Robin Black on Fight Network.
