LAW Aug. 21 Update - Ross Chats with Punk and Austin

John Pollock / August 21, 2012 - 3:23pm

**Today’s edition of Review-A-Raw with Wai Ting and myself chatting ‘Raw’ from last night is up on the website at http://fightnetwork.com/news/33291:aug.-21-edition-of-review-a-raw/ and taking your feedback to the show along with Wai’s thoughts on SummerSlam, a look at some of the better #WWEPornNames (a topic that was trending last night) and lots more. You can also subscribe to ‘Live Audio Wrestling’ for free on iTunes and can also listen with the free Stitcher app.

**The ‘Smackdown’ television tapings are in Bakersfield, California tonight but nothing has been announced for the show. It appears Randy Orton will be figured into the title picture for the next pay-per-view and perhaps going in a three-way direction with Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio based on the finish at ‘SummerSlam’ and follow up last night.

**The WWE is holding tryouts in California, which began on Monday with Jim Ross, William Regal and Bill DeMott among those evaluating prospective talent.

**Chris Jericho is done for the foreseeable future following ‘Raw’ last night. Fozzy has already begun their tour for the newly released ‘Sin and Bones’ album. Fozzy has a really busy scheduled (although interestingly enough there are no Monday night dates on the tour). They are pretty well booked solid until the end of September where they will get six-weeks off and then return in November and tour until the end of 2012 and into 2013. Now we will get a hundred Jericho interviews where he will be asked when he is coming back.

**CM Punk will be in Winter Park, Florida on Thursday for the next set of ‘NXT’ tapings.

**Davey Richards has been announced for the ROH ‘Death Before Dishonor X’ event on September 15th in Chicago Ridge, Illinois. Richards is scheduled to address the ROH audience rather than working a match on the show.

**Jim Ross was in Los Angeles all weekend for the ‘SummerSlam’ events and also conducted a sit down interview last Thursday with CM Punk and Steve Austin together to promote the WWE ’13 video game. Ross referred to the interview as a ‘classic’ on Twitter and was ‘respectfully combative’. It is unknown where the interview will air or when. The interview was said to be about four-hours.

**FCW talent Brad Maddox debuted on ‘Raw’ last night as a referee and has been under a developmental deal since 2010.

**Here is an interview that Mark Madden conducted last week with Paul Heyman on his radio program out of Pittsburgh discussing SummerSlam and more.

**As mentioned on ‘Raw’ last night Punk will surpass the 1993 title reign of Yokozuna, 2004/05 reign of JBL and 2005/06 reign of John Cena as WWE Champion next Monday when Punk hits 281-days as WWE Champion. I really like how they continually bring up these statistics and make it an impressive feat of how long he is holding the title and is something they have rarely done over the past decade when it comes to emphasizing lengthy title runs. The next longest reigns for Punk to surpass are Diesel’s 1995 1994/95 reign (358-days), Hulk Hogan’s 1989/90 reign (364-days), Randy Savage’s 1988/89 reign (371-days) and John Cena’s 2006/07 reign (380-days).

**Here is what Charlie Sheen was up to on Sunday night while ‘SummerSlam’ was going on.

**Eve Torres turns 28-years old today.

**Here is an interview with Jim Ross on Yahoo Sports Radio from this past Saturday heading into SummerSlam and discussing the roster, the buildup to the card and more.

LAW MMA UPDATE

**The Strikeforce ‘Rousey Vs Kaufman’ card averaged 529,000 viewers and peaked for the Rousey Vs Kaufman fight with 676,000 viewers and were the highest numbers for any Strikeforce broadcast this year on Showtime.

**Darin Harvey, the manager of Ronda Rousey was a guest on ‘The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani’ on Monday and said that if a fight was made between Rousey and Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos that he would demand extensive drug testing leading up to the fight and go so far as to request follicle samples from Cyborg that can detest usage months ago. Harvey also stated that he would be willing to foot the bill for such extensive drug testing and was adamant that they would only take a catchweight bout if Rousey changed her mind and right now wants the fight at 135, which Cyborg is stating she cannot make and won’t do.

**Bellator has announced that Bellator 79 will take place November 2nd at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario with Bantamweight Champion Eduardo Dantas scheduled to defend his title on that show (against the winner of Luis Nogueira Vs Marcus Galvao this Friday night) plus Paul Daley will be fighting on that card.
