Comic Con and Fan Expo

I heard of Comic Con before. Various superstar celebrities would sit on a panel there to discuss their latest action, horror, sci-fi or super-hero movies. That’s all I really associated with it. Little did I know, Canada has their own version of Comic Con and I got thrown right into the centre of it.
Last week, my Fight Network crew and I went to Fan Expo Canada at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto, which turned out to be a sensory overload for the eyes and the nose. It started off normal enough. I got the chance to interview the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, at the ribbon cutting ceremony to kick off the weekend. He was incredibly nice and gave almost every media outlet a one-on-one interview. I was surprised to find out he had played two games with the Toronto Argos back in 1976 and that we will be seeing more of him in the Avengers 2. You can check out my interview on the August 29 edition of Fight News Now: MMA Edition.
Once that was over, it was off to The Amazing Party Store to get a costume so that I could “fit in” at Fan Expo. I had three options: Chun Li from Street Fighter, Princess Leia from Star Wars or Wonder Woman. We chose the best one, you’ll see it on this week’s episode of Fight News Now, and then it was back to Fan Expo for the transformation.
Of course, I wasn’t the only one donning a costume; people were dressed up all over the place. I recognized the usual suspects: Batman & Robin, Ironman, Zombies and whatnot. Then there were the “no clue” people as in, I have no clue what you’re dressed up as. There were painted faces, coloured hair, too-tight body suits, too revealing costumes, weird fuzzy ears and tails and guys dressed in uniform carrying fake guns. What did I get myself into?
You’ll have to check out Fight News Now: The MMA Edition this week on Fight Network to see the full day I spent at Fan Expo Canada. I stepped out of my comfort zone way too many times and the results were pretty funny.
