LAW Oct. 2 Update - Former WWE Talent Uses BJJ On Train
John Pollock / October 2, 2012 - 4:54pm
**The latest edition of Review-A-Raw is up on the site with Wai Ting and I chatting last night’s show at http://fightnetwork.com/news/33858:oct.-2-edition-of-review-a-raw/ and also taking your feedback on what you liked, disliked and didn’t understand. We do the show every Monday night after Raw and you can download it or subscribe on iTunes to Live Audio Wrestling.
**Also up on the site today is my full 22-minute chat with Christopher Daniels of TNA discussing Bound for Glory and the three-way tag he is involved with, teaming with Kazarian, Claire Lynch, working with Chavo Guerrero for the first time and his thoughts on “The Amazing Spiderman” and potential Robin and Catwoman spin offs following “The Dark Knight Rises”. That interview is available on iTunes and at http://fightnetwork.com/news/33874:interview-christopher-daniels-on-claire-lynch-and-more/.
**Shawn Daivari was involved in an incident last week on a train where a passenger began shouting racial remarks at fellow passengers and began threatening to kill people on the train. Passengers were hitting the emergency buttons but no one responded and Daivari took the man down and applied a rear-naked choke and then tossed him out of the train at the next stop. An investigation is pending according to Metro Transit and the story is at http://www.tmz.com/2012/10/02/wwe-shawn-daivari-train-rescue-choke-hold/.
**The Smackdown and Main Event television tapings are in Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight. Main Event will feature CM Punk Vs Sheamus in a Champion Vs Champion match along with Zack Ryder & Santino Marella Vs Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel in the first round of the tag tournament. On Smackdown the first round of the tournament continues with The Prime Time Players Vs Kofi Kingston & R-Truth.
**Following Raw last night in Oklahoma City they held the actual Jim Ross Appreciation Night for the live audience. The ceremony featured both Vince McMahon and Triple H coming out with McMahon calling Ross the greatest announcer of all-time and even better than Gordon Solie (who Ross has always conceded as being second to Solie). They also had special guests Bill Watts and Danny Hodge and taped messages from Jerry Lawler and OU coach Bob Stoops. The WWE has posted a number of videos on their website from the ceremony at http://www.wwe.com/videos/playlists/raw-exclusives-oct-1-2012.
**Chris Jericho noted that he and Lance Storm made their debut on this date in 1990 in Ponoka, Alberta.
**The WWE was awarded the 2012 OMMA Award (Online Marketing, Media and Advertising) for web excellence in the TV and Entertainment category on Monday night.
LAW MMA UPDATE
**Forrest Griffin was a guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Monday and stated for the first time that he failed his post fight drug test following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 101 in Philadelphia in August 2009. Griffin stated he was so anxious the night before that he took a Xanax and it showed up in his post fight urinalysis. I spoke with NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer and he confirmed to me that Griffin was suspended for 30-days by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission and alerted the NSAC about the suspension and that is why he was able to fight in November 2009 against Tito Ortiz in Nevada at UFC 106.
**UFC President Dana White has confirmed that the winner of this Friday’s flyweight bout between the debuting Jussier da Silva and TUF 14 winner John Dodson will receive the first Flyweight Title shot against recently crowned champion Demetrious Johnson.
**Dave Bautista officially has an opponent in Vince Lucero (22-22-1) for this Saturday’s CES MMA card. Lucero is 40-years old and last fought this past April and is 4-14-1 over the past seven-years. He has fought notable names such as Tim Sylvia, Roy Nelson, Lavar Johnson, Devin Cole and Tim Hague and been stopped in the first round by all of them. The card is available on DirecTV in the U.S. and at bautistamma.com this Saturday night from the Providence, Rhode Island.
**The President of Invicta FC Shannon Knapp will be one of my guests on The MMA Report this week discussing the promotion’s third card this Saturday night in Kansas City, Missouri and available for free online at invictafc.com.
**Bellator kicked off their seventh season this past Friday with Bellator 74 averaging 190,000 viewers on MTV 2 for the start of the welterweight tournament.
**The UFC has released welterweight Charlie Brenneman following losses to Erick Silva last June and to Kyle Noke last weekend at UFC 152 in Toronto.
**Duane Ludwig has torn his ACL in his left knee following his bout with Che Mills this past weekend at the UFC on FUEL 5 event. That is a really tough injury to come back from especially at 34-years of age for Ludwig and we wish him a full recovery.
**A light heavyweight bout between Anthony Johnson and D.J. Linderman has been added to the World Series of Fighting card on November 3rd in Las Vegas. UFC President Dana White recently stated he wants to see Johnson make weight for one more fight and would then be open to him returning to the UFC so this could be a gateway fight for Johnson back into the UFC.
**The UFC has added a featherweight bout between Steven Siler and Darren Elkins to the undercard of the UFC 154 event on November 17th in Montreal, Quebec.
