LAW MMA UPDATE
**The newest episode of The MMA Report is up as I chat with UFC middleweight Cung Le about his fight tomorrow and role in “The Man with the Iron Fists” and the status of his foot injury. Plus, Jonathan Snowden from Bleacher Report returns and my picks for the FUEL card tomorrow. The show is up at http://themmareport.podbean.com/2012/11/09/cung-le-jonathan-snowden/. The show also airs tonight at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto and will feature an updated new pack with the Strikeforce news discussed in tonight’s show.
**TMZ was the first to report that Strikeforce will be shutting its doors after its January 12th event in Oklahoma City and that Ronda Rousey will become the first female to enter the UFC. This will have lots of ramifications with the positive being a lot of great fights being able to be made now and promoting a potential fight between Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Santos on a big platform such as FOX or on a pay-per-view event. The biggest losers are a sizeable portion of the Strikeforce roster, who will not be absorbed by the UFC. There are roughly 80 fighters under contract to Strikeforce and you’re talking about a bloated UFC roster already without the additions of the likes of Gilbert Melendez, Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold, Nate Marquardt and Josh Thomson, who I see as a shoe-ins to be brought in.
**The UFC on FUEL 6 event from Macau kicks off early Saturday morning at 7:40am EST with the Facebook fights and then the main card goes at 9am EST on FUEL TV in the U.S. and Sportsnet One in Canada with the following card:
MAIN CARD
*Rich Franklin Vs Cung Le
*Stanislav Nedkov Vs Thiago Silva
*Paulo Thiago Vs Dong Hyun Kim
*Mac Danzig Vs Takanori Gomi
*Jon Tuck Vs Tiequan Zhang
*Takeya Mizugaki Vs Jeff Hougland
PRELIMINARY CARD
*Alex Caceres Vs Motonobu Tezuka
*Yasuhiro Urushitani Vs John Lineker
*Riki Fukuda Vs Tom DeBlass
**A preliminary card bout between David Mitchell and Hyun Gu Lim has been scratched from the event but no reason was directly given by the UFC. Mitchell was awarded his show money so that indicates the issue was on Lim’s end.
**The company will go out with a big show with three title fights on their final card and Cormier fulfilling his deal to Showtime and fighting one last time. Here is the current card for January 12th in Oklahoma City:
*Gilbert Melendez Vs Pat Healy for the Lightweight Title
*Nate Marquardt Vs Tarec Saffiedine for the Welterweight Title
*Luke Rockhold Vs Lorenz Larkin for the Middleweight Title
*Daniel Cormier Vs Dion Staring
**The Nevada State Athletic Commission announced on Friday that they conducted out of competition drug tests for both Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson in preparation for their TUF 16 Finale event and both passed their tests.
**Glory Sports International has announced that they are merging their December 2nd GLORY 4 Heavyweight Grand Slam event with the DREAM 18 New Year’s Eve card into one big card for December 31st in Tokyo, Japan, which will feature MMA fights and the GLORY 16-man heavyweight tournament with the winner leaving with $400,000. The event is scheduled to run for eight-hours but is still seeking a North American broadcaster.
**The gate from last Saturday’s World Series of Fighting event at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas was $82,608.
