Canadian TKD Athlete Hit With Banned Substance Sanction

Ashley Kraayeveld, one of Canada’s senior national champion taekwondo fighters, has been hit with a sanction for the use of a banned substance. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) laid the four-month retroactive sanction after Kraayeveld tested positive for furosemide, a prohibited diuretic, after the Canadian National Taekwondo Championships this past June. According to a 30-page inquiry report by the CCES, Kraayeveld was given the drug by her mother, not knowing it was a prohibited substance, so it was determined that “her degree of fault is at the low end of the spectrum.” As a result, Kraayeveld will forfeit all competitive results between the period of June 28th and October 28th.
