Historic World Karate Championships 2012 Kicks Off

"The Karate is universal and enjoys a great establishment in the five continents – athletes and supporters – and with no doubt, it is the combat sport with the highest tradition of those that exist". In that way, Mr. Antonio Espinós, the Spanish President of the Worldwide Karate Federation (WFK), expresed himself during the press conference that was held at Paris Bercy due to the starting of this 21st Worldwide Karate Championships.

Espinós defined this appointment as "historic" since it is developed one month before the test that KARATE must to pass before the International Olympic Comitee in order to be, finally, included in the Olympic Programme. The emotional work that it is being carried on by the WFK has its fullfilment point from this 21st of November up to 25th of November where the values and the strength points of this noble sports practice will be highlighted and it will be shown they are completly aligned with the declared values of the Olympic Declaration.

Some of the numbers that give approval to the importance of the Championships are the 16.000 people that each day and from this Wednesday will be filled in the magnificent Paris Bercy Stadium or the almost 1.000 karatekas from 114 countries al over the world or the almost 300 journalists accreditated or the 17 TV Stations that are broadcasting live or recorded the Competition... All these numbers confirm that we are in front of a sport event of high world level.

In referente to the Sport subject, during today the first competitions from KATA and KUMITE – male and female category – have been taking place and the first finalists with medal options are already clasified.

Being coherent with the WKF vocation of proving tha KARATE is an element of social integration, today and for closing the day, as a tribute, some demonstrations of KARATEKAS with some intellectual impaired have taken place. If during the day, the stands have been a seething mass of people when these people have shown their quality, tenacity and their spirit to overcome, the ovation was huge. There was no better way to close the 1st day of the 21st Edition of Worldwide Karate Worldwide Championships (WKF – Championships 2012)
