Collin Van Ooyen / November 23, 2012 - 6:01pm

The Double Knockout

Knockout #1 (above) comes via former WWE Diva and current ROH valet Maria Kanellis. Call wrestling fake all you want, but Kanellis is a knockout that is as real as they come.

Knockout #2 by way of a well-placed flying knee that also happens to be the first strike thrown in the fight. The commentators sound like they might be on ketamine or something as they are surprisingly calm about the explosive blow.

Black Belt Baller Of The Day

Swedish soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic blew the collective minds of soccer fans world wide recently after a flipping bicycle kick goal from about 35 yards away from the net. He’s often been talked about as one of the best footballers in the world, but the pitch isn’t the only place that he’s a skilled striker. Ibrahimovic is also a taekwondo black belt, and has attributed that training as one of the main reasons he was able to pull off the absolutely ridiculous goal.

Old Man Knife Fight Of The Day

These masters of Baraw Sugbo, a style of Filipino knife fighting, give us a lightning-fast demo of how to counter various knife attacks. Their skill level is unreal, and who would’ve guessed that a pair of guys who look like they’ve been on a diet of cigarettes, cheese, and cheap rum their entire lives could move this fast.

Classic Martial Arts Movie Of The Day

Jackie Chan is easily one of the most recognizable Hollywood stars on the planet, but before he was his star shone bright enough to reach North America, he created Chinese classics like Drunken Master. Directed by the incomparable Master Yuen Wo Ping, this film showcased everything that makes Chan great: his acrobatic fighting style, innovative choreography, and Buster Keaton-esque physical comedy. The best part is that this classic is available on YouTube in its English-dubbed entirety, although it is split into 11 parts. Here’s a look at the trailer:

Completely Random Tony Jaa Appearance Of The Day

From a martial arts legend of yesteryear (no offense Jackie, you’re still the man), to a legend-in-the-making; Tony Jaa, star of such contemporary classics as “Ong Bak” and “The Protector”, shows up in the last place you’d expect: as halftime entertainment at a Dallas Mavericks game. Jaa’s inability to speak English has made it a struggle for him to gain mainstream notoriety in North America, but his unreal high kicks speak the universal language of “awesome.”

Inspirational Quote Of The Day

Today’s quote comes courtesy of one of boxing’s very greatest, Sugar Ray Leonard, whose short and simple statement speaks volumes about the duality of pursuing a violent endeavor as your life’s passion…

“Before I fight, I always pray that no one gets hurt”

Blog Post That Could Save Your Ass Of The Day

Most MMA fans know about and appreciate all of the major elements of the sport that make it so diverse: wrestling, kickboxing, BJJ, muay thai etc. But how many of those styles will help you on the street? Okay, let’s be real, if you’re an expert of any of those you’re probably going to be okay in a street fight, but one martial arts practitioner has taken the time to break down just which martial arts are the most brutally effective for real-world self defense.
