LAW Nov. 27 Update - Mini Review of Attitude Era DVD
John Pollock / November 27, 2012 - 4:53pm
**Last night’s edition of Review-A-Raw is up on the site with Wai Ting and I discussing last night’s edition of WWE Raw and taking all of your feedback at http://fightnetwork.com/news/34888:nov.-27-edition-of-review-a-raw/ and you can also get the show on iTunes by subscribing to Live Audio Wrestling.
**Tonight the Smackdown tapings are in Bossier City, Louisiana with no matches announced ahead of time.
**Here is the updated card for the WWE TLC event on December 16th in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center:
*CM Punk Vs Ryback in a TLC Match for the WWE Title
*Big Show Vs Sheamus in a Chairs Match for the World Title
*Kofi Kingston Vs Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Title
**CM Punk posted on Twitter today that he is undergoing some x-rays with a tongue in cheek post that this is newsworthy.
**The Thanksgiving edition of Impact Wrestling last Thursday night did a 0.8 rating and averaged 1,187,000 viewers.
**The WWE Attitude Era DVD / Blu Ray is out today featuring a one-hour documentary on the 1997-2001 period. It features a lot of stock interviews in addition to some new chats that were filmed for the special. There is one clip from Vince Russo in the documentary as he was recently brought in to Stamford for the N.W.O. DVD and evidently decided to use a clip for this piece. The documentary doesn’t try and sugar coat what they did during that time period and discuss just about every outrageous angle including Mae Young giving birth, Mark Henry with the transvestite, Val Venis having his penis chopped off, encouraging women to flash in the crowd, Miss Kitty flashing at a pay-per-view (hey, didn’t the WWE say she acted on her own when that happened?) and all of the DX vignettes. I thought the person that comes across the best on the piece is Mick Foley, who noted the positive and negative of what they did at the time, was an unbiased voice when it came to the actual lawsuit with the Parents Television Council (and Foley wrote and researched extensively about the PTC in his 2001 “Foley is Good” book) and acknowledged that the company pushed the envelope for the sake of doing so at times and it hurt them more than helped in a few occasions. If there is one big take away for me it’s the fact that the product was stale and hurting in 1996 and rather than keep the wheels moving they decided to revamp everything about Raw from the look of the show, the staging, the tone of the characters and evolve and the result was a lot of key characters clicking in unison with one another and it worked. Today Raw is largely put together and feels the same way it did a decade ago with little evolution made to the product other than tacking on another hour to the show. This is not an argument to go the TV-14 route but rather evolving the product to make it feel fresh again and reassessing how the WWE presents their product in 2012.
**We are back with Review-A-Wai chatting about the 2003 Survivor Series headlined by Bill Goldberg Vs Triple H for the World Title and a Buried Alive Match between The Undertaker and Vince McMahon.
**Luke Hawx was one of the security guards used on Raw last night for the Ryback segment. Hawx is currently involved in a program with Matt Hardy for the Extreme Rising group.
**Davey Boy Smith would have turned 50-years old today. Smith passed away in May of 2002.
**The WWE was promoting a return to Lafayette on Monday February 18th (the night after Elimination Chamber) and are promoting The Rock appearing on that show.
**TNA has posted the entire Final Resolution event from last December on YouTube to promote this year’s show and you can watch the entire show below, headlined by Bobby Roode Vs A.J. Styles for the TNA Title:
LAW MMA UPDATE
**The UFC announced today the Road to the Octagon special promoting the UFC on FOX 5 card will air on FOX this weekend following the NFL games on Sunday.
**The UFC will return to London, England on February 16th at the Wembley Arena for the UFC on FUEL 7 event. They have not made any fights official as of yet for the card.
**Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com reports that UFC middleweight Alessio Sakara has signed a four-fight extension with the company. Sakara was most recently disqualified against Patrick Cote at UFC 154 in Montreal for illegal strikes to the back of the head. Sakara was planning to appeal the decision but was immediately shunned by the Quebec Athletic Commission so the result stands.
**Bruce Lee was born on this date in 1940.
