LAW Dec. 16 Update - WWE TLC, ROH Final Battle in NY
John Pollock / December 16, 2012 - 1:38pm
**Tonight is the WWE’s TLC card from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York as they close out their pay-per-view calendar for the year. We have a preview of the show up on the site running through all of the matches. Here is the lineup for the show:
*Ryback & Daniel Bryan & Kane Vs The Shield in a TLC Match
*Big Show Vs Sheamus in a Chairs Match for the World Title
*John Cena Vs Dolph Ziggler in a Ladder Match for the MITB Briefcase
*Kofi Kingston Vs Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Title
*Antonio Cesaro Vs R-Truth for the U.S. Title
*Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara Vs Team Rhodes Scholars
*Diva’s Santa’s Helper Battle Royal on the YouTube pre-show at 7:30pm EST
**Ring of Honor presents their year-end iPPV today with Final Battle at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City (they are running the afternoon to avoid going head to head in the market with TLC) and we will have a full rundown of this show as well on The LAW tonight. Here is the card for the show:
*Kevin Steen Vs El Generico in a Ladder War for the ROH Title
This should be insane based on the history of these two with their feud kicking off at Final Battle 2009 and this will likely be the culmination of that with Generico unlikely to be sticking around after this show. Steen always goes all out and Generico is one of the best performers in the business right now and I’m sure both are going in with the mentality of stealing the show and giving a MOTY effort.
*Adam Cole Vs Matt Hardy in a non-title match
Hardy brings a lot of extra interest to the show and the goal of getting Cole to the next level seems to be what the purpose of this is. The fact it’s a non-title match suggests this feud continues with Hardy getting the win in their first match. I’m curious to see how they two gel and the level of match Hardy can still put out at this stage.
*Jimmy Jacobs & Steve Corino Vs The Briscoe Brothers Vs Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander for the ROH Tag Titles
The heel faction of S.C.U.M. controlling the titles is a cool dynamic to have and I’m not expecting a title change in this one. Steve Corino has gotten into great shape during this last run and Jacobs has really elevated himself as well so if it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. There are a lot of bodies in this match and that can always be a challenge and I expect a lot of focus on Coleman and Alexander so that people view them as a top tag team.
*Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards Vs Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish
This one will succeed or fail based on the crowd because you will likely get a lot of negative Davey fans in this venue and these four also have the ability to turn this into a work/shoot hybrid style of match that at times can turn the audience off (O’Reilly Vs Cole earlier this year prior to the tooth/gum incident). The set up angle on television with Richards and O’Reilly was really well done and liked it a lot, O’Reilly has a great look as the smug heel and I’m just waiting for his promos to reach the level of potential he has.
*Jerry Lynn Vs Mike Bennett
Lynn will probably be the sleeper story of the show as this crowd is going to love this man as this being billed as his final ROH match. There are also whispers that Bennett may be on his way out of ROH as well and if all things are equal in that case I say have Lynn win clean and leave the crowd happy.
*Michael Elgin Vs Roderick Strong
This is the culmination of the breakup of The House of Truth as they have slowly been building this up since Elgin had his huge match with Davey Richards at Showdown in the Sun. Elgin is clearly positioned to be a top babyface for 2013 and should win this one to continue that momentum.
*Jay Lethal Vs Rhino
This is sort of just on the card and probably a quick win for Lethal to keep him busy as he will probably be the next challenger for Steen.
*BJ Whitmer & Rhett Titus Vs Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin in a New York City Street Fight
I expect Rhett Titus to bleed...a lot. Benjamin is another name rumored to be on the way out so that’s something to keep in the back of your head in this one. This should be a big brawl and give the win to Whitmer and Titus.
*RD Evans Vs Prince Nana
This will be the fun comedy match of the night, Evans and Nana are great characters and this should be a quick and painless 5-minutes on the show.
**Tonight on The LAW Dan “The Mouth” Lovranski, Jason Agnew and myself will be live at Midnight EST and taking your phone calls all night long at 1-855-591-6876 and recapping both the WWE TLC and ROH Final Battle cards from the New York market. Because of it being such a busy weekend we are not having a guest on tonight and it will be dedicated to your calls and we will chat with Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. On Title Bout Trivia tonight you will have a chance to win the “Heroes and Icons” book that Greg Oliver and Steven Johnson have just released through ECW Press and we’ll look ahead to the next two editions of The LAW, featuring our best and worst of shows coming up. Tune in tonight at Midnight EST on TSN 1050 Toronto, The TEAM 1410 in Vancouver and live here on the website.
**Randy Orton is currently on the sidelines with a separated shoulder and not a wrist injury as we originally wrote. The injury occurred at the Tribute to the Troops event last weekend in Norfolk, Virginia and he is expected to be back in time for the post-Christmas house shows, which are one of the most lucrative weeks of the year as the houses are always very strong in the Northeast.
**Tomorrow night Raw is in Philadelphia for the Slammy Award edition of the show with voting taking place now on the WWE mobile app. They have added the following categories to the show: Betrayal of the year, Upset of the Year, Feat of Strength of the Year, Diva of the Year, Best Facial Hair, Best Crowd Cheer, YouTube Show of the Year, Best Dancer, Insult of the Year, Top Social Media Ambassador, Tweet of the Year and Exclusive Video of the Year. This could be a long show on Monday night.
