WTF Releases 2013 Rule Changes
After a lengthy year-end review process, the World Taekwondo Federation has released its updated rule changes for the upcoming season. One of the most notable changes was the alteration of junior and cadet age requirements, with raises in minimum age in both categories. Included for the first time is a definition of event venue specifications, complete with a minimum seating capacity, floor size, and lighting requirements. View the full list of amendments at wtfcanada.com.
Judo Coach To Receive Order Of Canada
Hiroshi Nakamura, head coach of the Shidokan Judo Club, home of Canada’s National Training Centre, is set to be granted our nation’s highest honour, the Order of Canada. Nakamura has been involved with judo for over 50 years, reaching 9th dan status as of January 2012. He’s coached five Canadian Olympic judo squads and was inducted to the Canadian Judo Hall of Fame in 1998 in the builder’s category.
NCAA Southern Scuffle Results
Two dozen schools descended upon the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for the annual Southern Scuffle meet this past weekend. Highlighting the event was the matchup of the nation’s top two pound-for-pound wrestlers, No. 1 Kyle Dake of Cornell, and No. 2 David Taylor of Penn State in the 165-lbs division. In a tightly-contested match that saw each man score a one point lead, Dake was able to score the decisive point off of a late reversal to secure the win. Penn State would however get the last laugh as they went on to be the overall champions of the event.

Ohio State Visits Iowa
A marquee matchup goes down later tonight as national No. 5 Iowa plays host to the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes in a battle of Big Ten powerhouses. Both sides are undefeated, so the stakes will be high as big names like No. 1 Matt McDonagh, No. 2 Tony Ramos, and the top-ranked Stieber brothers will all be in action. Only a point and a half separates the two schools in matchup of the second and third seeded Big Ten teams.
