LAW Jan. 8 Update - The Rock in Miami at SD Tapings
John Pollock / January 8, 2013 - 3:48pm
**Today`s edition of Review-A-Raw is up on the website at http://fightnetwork.com/news/35686:jan.-8-edition-of-review-a-raw/ with Wai Ting and I chatting last night`s show and getting your feedback to the first Raw of 2013 along with the return of The Rock and TLC Match between CM Punk and Ryback. You can also subscribe to Live Audio Wrestling on iTunes and listen on the free Stitcher app.
**Following Raw on Monday night the CM Punk Vs The Rock match for the WWE Title is now official for the Royal Rumble in Phoenix, Arizona. The building is already sold out (as was last night`s Raw from the Tampa Bay Time Forum in Tampa) and evident that consumer demand has jumped with The Rock`s return.
**The Smackdown and Main Event tapings are in Miami tonight featuring The Rock appearing on the show. I imagine more promos aired on the USA Network feed but in Canada you would have left last night without any clue The Rock is on Smackdown this week and that seems like a lost opportunity and a waste of an appearance for The Rock. The Smackdown tapings are headlined by Big Show Vs Alberto Del Rio, which likely will lead to a title match at the Rumble in three-weeks.
**Review-A-Wai is back tomorrow with Wai Ting and I reviewing the 2008 documentary `Bigger, Stronger, Faster
**The Pope announced on Twitter that his contract expired on January 1st and he will not be remaining in the organization but thanked TNA for his three-years with the group.
**Sting Vs Doc has been added to Genesis this Sunday on the pay-per-view.
**TNA has announced that Bully Ray will be on Impact this Thursday to address his suspension and that sentence sums up lots of confusion.
**A strange tweet from TNA official Brian Hebner on the role his father played in the Montreal Screwjob:
When people talk about Montreal SCREW JOB,very weird THEY ignore the fact the man who was responsible for it happening? #NO REF NO SCREW JOB
**UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem appeared in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission today and was re-licensed by the state and given the go ahead to fight Antonio Silva on February 2nd in Las Vegas at UFC 156. Overeem was granted a conditional license by Nevada when he last fought Brock Lesnar on December 30th 2011 at UFC 141 in Las Vegas and failed a random drug test after a press conference in March that revealed a T/E ratio of 14:1 (above the 6:1 limit within the state). During the course of the year while on the sidelines Overeem sent in five self administered tests that came back clean to the commission. It is almost certain that Overeem would receive the next UFC heavyweight title shot against Cain Velasquez if he defeats Silva next month.
**An intriguing middleweight bout between Hector Lombard and Yushin Okami has been signed by the UFC for their return to Japan on March 3rd for the UFC on FUEL 8 event at the Saitama Super Arena. Okami has won his last two fights with a stoppage of Buddy Roberts at UFC 150 last August and a unanimous nod over Alan Belcher at UFC 155 on December 29th while Lombard earned his first UFC victory last month stopping Rousimar Palhares in Australia at the UFC on FX 6 card after dropping a decision to Tim Boestch in his octagon debut at UFC 149.
**This week on The MMA Report I will be chatting with Daniel Cormier, who will be fighting Dion Staring this Saturday on the final Strikeforce card and I will also go through the history of the organization. The show will be up here on the website and iTunes on Thursday afternoon and airs Friday night at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto.
**A bantamweight bout between Chico Camus and the debuting Dustin Kimura has been added to the undercard of the February 2nd UFC 156 card in Las Vegas. Camus debuted at UFC 150 with a unanimous decision over Dustin Pague while Kimura is undefeated since debuting in 2009.
**The UFC has added a welterweight bout between Sean Pierson and Rick Story for the UFC 158 card on March 16th in Montreal, Quebec.
**The April 27th UFC card from Newark, New Jersey headlined by Jon Jones Vs Chael Sonnen for the Light Heavyweight Title will be UFC 159 coming off of TUF 17, which debuts January 22nd on FX and FX Canada.
