A Fan's Favorite - Zack Ryder

Sam Pierce / January 22, 2013 - 1:07am

Professional wrestling would be nothing without its fans. We get behind our favorites and aren’t afraid to express our opinions. Today, I interview Daniel Mason. His favorite wrestler is Zack Ryder.

Sam – Why Zack Ryder? Why is he your favorite?

Daniel – Because he’s the ultimate broski! Not the ultimate warrior, the ultimate broski! No, the real reason is because he was the first superstar to interact with the fans. He used YouTube and Twitter to communicate with the fans on a personal basis. For once, it wasn’t like you were rooting for some guy in a fantasy world, I felt like I actually knew him. We all got behind him and when he finally won the US title, it felt like such an amazing accomplishment for not only him, but for us.

Sam – Did you like him before he got pushed in 2011?

Daniel – Yeah, when he was on ECW, obviously. No, to be honest, I didn’t really know who he was. I didn’t have an opinion on him. He was just another jobber. But he took it into his own hands to change that.

Sam – Why do you think WWE stopped pushing him in 2012?

Daniel – WWE figured that Zack had reached his peak of popularity. They got all they wanted and didn’t need him anymore. But, I actually don’t think he did reach his peak of popularity. He could’ve gone a lot farther. They didn’t give him a legitimate chance. They never thought he could be anything big. The fans wanted him to get a title shot so they just gave in and said fine, you can have it. We, the fans, helped push Zack Ryder. Management never did. And proof of that is him teaming with Santino in 2012. They never took him seriously.

Sam – Do you have a favorite Zack Ryder match or moment?

Daniel – When he beat Zig for the US title, that was a really big moment for us. Everything he had worked for and I mean really worked for had finally paid off. It goes back to him actually making the effort to push himself. He didn’t get help from creative. It was only once he was getting an obvious huge pop from the crowd that management finally said ok, this guy can sell some T shirts so let’s put the strap on him.

Sam – Thanks Daniel. I wish you and Zack the best in your future endeavors. And I mean that, considering we just saw Zack get squashed by the Big Show on Raw.
