On this day in 2003, UFC 41 took place at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The show garnered an attendance of 13,401, and since this was a pre-TUF pay per view, the buy rate was only 60,000.

The show was headlined by a heavyweight duel between Ricco Rodriguez and Tim Sylvia for the UFC title. Rodriguez couldn't take the fight to the floor and 3:06 into the fight was knocked out by Sylvia, who became the new heavyweight champ as a result. Also on the card was the finals of the lightweight tournament, which ended in a very anti-clamactic way. B.J. Penn and Caol Uno fought to a draw, which left the UFC title once again without a holder in the 155 pound division.

Also on the card, Tank Abbott returned to the UFC but was tapped out in only 46 seconds by Frank Mir via a toe hold. Matt Lindland and Phil Baroni fought for the second time and Lindland won two rounds to one in the grudge match between middleweights. The main card also saw Vladimir Matyushenko defeat Pedro Rizzo via decision.

The most unusual fight on the card was Matt Serra against Din Thomas, which was initially given to Serra via decision, but a judge put his score accidentally in the wrong place so they changed it to award Din Thomas the split decision. Thomas was notified after the fight of the mistake by UFC president Dana White.
