Cage Warriors 54 is live on Fight Network from the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales, featuring a CWFC Middleweight title matchup between champion Jesse Taylor and challenger John Phillips. Follow the live blog below:
MAIN EVENT - CWFC MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT
Jesse Taylor (c) vs. John Phillips
Taylor shoots in for a takedown and goes to work on top. Phillips is doing a good job of tying up Taylor's hands, but when Taylor gets free he's landing bombs. Taylor is doing some damage from half guard. Taylor passes the guard and takes full mount and starts throwing bombs. Phillips wiggles out and they're back in half guard. Phillips has a big cut opened up over his eye. Taylor locks in a deep guillotine and this one is over quick. Taylor cruised in this one and was never really challenged.
Winner: Taylor via submission (guillotine), retains CWFC Middleweight title.
Danny Roberts vs. Diego Gonzalez
Roberts lands with a big uppercut. Roberts gets caught coming inside and is taken to the ground. Gonzalez tries to work for a sub from the top but Roberts is very active. Roberts makes his way back to the feet and lands with some big punches. Roberts lands a big knee to the head that staggers Gonzalez. Roberts clearly has the better timing, power, and creative striking. Gonzalez doing a good job of landing with power from the inside.
Gonzalez shoots for a takedown and gets caught in a deep guillotine. Roberts is trying to sink it in but loses the hold. Roberts scrambles for the back, but Gonzalez reverses it in transition and winds up on top. Gonzalez is working hard for a sub from the top. Gonzalez stands up and Roberts starts throwing all kinds of up-kicks. The two get back to the feet and Roberts pushes Gonzalez against the cage in a Thai clinch. Roberts start teeing off with multiple knees to the body. Roberts is pouring it on relentlessly now as he drops Gonzalez with a series of punches. Roberts tees off on the head of his downed opponent and earns himself the TKO stoppage.

Lewis Long vs. Mark Glover
Long looks much bigger as the two square off. Long is showing off some really creative head feints to set up his combinations. Glover is also showing some good footwork, but Long seems to have his timing down early. Long opens up with some strong leg kicks to set up a punching combination. Long then uses a punching combination to set up his leg kicks. Both men are moving around a ton as this fight seems to move all over the cage. Long has a really creative attack, never throwing the same series twice in a row. Long lands with a strong punch to the body that hurts Glover.
Long lands a kick that's a little too low and action is stopped as Glover takes a moment to recover. Glover tries for a flying knee but is caught in mid-air by long and tossed to the mat. Long allows him to stand back up and tees off with more low kicks. Long is landing these kicks at will as Glover isn't even checking them. Glover's lead leg is turning purple on both sides. Long unleashes with a multi-shot punching combo to the body. Glover tries to let his hands go but eats a series of punches to the head for his trouble. Long is just stalking him around the ring now. Glover shoots for a takedown but is stuffed easily as Long gets him in a guillotine. Long throws him to the mat and allows Glover to stand up. Glover lands with a punching combination, but Long is coming forward relentlessly. Long's lead jab is landing at will.
Glover is coming forward with desperation in this round. Long may be sitting back on his heels a bit as Glover is landing with consistency. Long is trying to just stick and move and ride out the round, frustrating Glover. Glover is taunting and trying to goad Long into a brawl, but Long isn't taking the bait. Glover continues to push forward as Long just tries to avoid contact. Glover shoots in for a takedown but is stifled against the cage. Glover is chasing Long all over the cage. Long finally standing his ground and starts throwing, and he's throwing bombs. Glover is eating power shots but taunting as if they don't hurt. Glover is swinging for a knockout late in the round. Glover shoots in for another takedown as Long sprawls beautifully and starts feeding shots to Glover's head.

Ivan Buchinger vs. Jason Ball
Both men reluctant to engage to start things off. Buchinger backs him into the cage and goes to work with some dirty boxing. Neither man is advancing position or even throwing a strike. Ball turns Buchinger around and is now more active in his clinch attack. Buchinger turns Ball back around and puts his back to the cage. Ball is connecting with punches to the head in close. The two finally separate and Ball takes control of the centre of the cage. Buchinger lands a single-leg takedown and nearly locks in a north-south choke as time expires in the round.
Buchinger lands a huge spinning back fist to open the round. Ball's eye is swollen almost instantly. Buchinger puts Ball onto his back again with a double-leg takedown. Ball controls the left arm of Buchinger and keeps him close. Buchinger finally gets free and tries to tee off with ground and pound. Ball grabs a hold of Buchinger's arm and nearly locks in a triangle, and then an arm bar, but Buchinger rolls through and escapes. Ball uses a butterfly sweep to get out and back to his feet but Buchinger is right on top of him. Buchinger takes the with right back to the floor as he takes top position again. Buchinger is grinding on Ball from the top, landing with occasional punches and elbows. Ball is very active with his butterfly guard. Ball gets a hold of a leg and pushes his way on top of Buchinger. Ball quickly gets a full mount. Buchinger rolls over and gives up his back as time expires in the round.
Buchinger takes the fight back to the cage and starts grinding against him. The two separate and Ball lands with a big right to the head. Buchinger scores another double-leg takedown as Ball again quickly establishes his butterfly guard. Buchinger pops back and Ball flips over into a turtle position. Buchinger works for a guillotine, but Ball is able to work his way to his feet. The fight doesn't stay standing long as Buchinger scores another takedown. Ball rolls out from underneath and is somehow now on Buchinger's back with an impressive reversal. Buchinger makes it back up to his feet using the cage and the two trade shots as time expires.
Winner: Buchinger via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Brett Johns vs. James MacAlister
The fight starts tentatively as Johns circles the cage and both men try to find the range. MacAlister goes in with a good low-high combo. Neither man can seem to connect here early on. MacAlister throws a wild high kick and falls down on a slip. Johns pounces on top of him and tries to establish top position. MacAlister gets back to his feet using the cage but Johns scores a huge takedown. MacAlister uses the cage yet again as Johns attempts to lock in a standing D'Arce choke. Johns is now grinding him against the cage. Johns gets a hold of a double leg and lifts MacAlister high in the air and slams him down. Johns may have hit his head on the takedown. Johns gets MacAlister's back and finishes the round raining down punches to the face.
Johns starts the round with another takedown as he quickly establishes the top position. Johns is grinding him out with strong ground and pound. McAllister is hurt and is trying to cover up. Johns is raining down with hammer fists and elbows as the referee puts a stop to it. Johns looks very impressive in the win.

Martin McDonough vs. Mark Platts
McDonough gets things going with some leg kicks. McDonough scores with a takedown after a flurry of punches and locks in guillotine. Platts pops his knee out and escapes. The two make it back to the feet and exchange briefly before Platts score with a takedown. Platts is grinding from the top position but isn't really advancing his position. After an extended period of inactivity, the referee stands them up. plates tees off with a multi shot combination that has McDonough reeling. Platts goes for a double leg takedown as McDonough locks in a standing body lock, Platts executes a controlled takedown to avoid getting DDT'd as the round expires.
McDonough is on his back again in no time as Platts scores with another takedown. Platts is scoring with some strong ground and pound from the top. McDonough executes a beautiful sweep and pounces onto Platts' back. McDonough sinks in a rear naked choke almost instantaneously and this one is over.
