WWE 'The Bash' Report - Orton Retains Title

Hey LAW fans - welcome to our coverage of 'The Bash' from Sacramento, California in the Arco Arena.

First match is the 'Scramble Match' for the ECW Title with Tommy Dreamer defending against Christian, Jack Swagger, Finlay and Mark Henry. Rules of this match is that it's 20:00 with a new paricipant entering every 3:00 and the after the 20:00 are up, the last one to score a decision is the champion.

Swagger and Christian start the match. Josh Matthews asks Striker a question and Striker has to ask Matthews to repeat the question as I assume Vince McMahon was going ape shit on the headsets about the rules.

Finlay is the third man in. Swagger attacks the eye of Finlay and gets the first pinfall of the match so Swagger is now the interim champion. Tommy Dreamer is the fourth entrant and technically has to win his title back.

Finlay delivers the Celtic Cross on Swagger and is the new champion. Mark Henry is obviously the fifth and final entrant.

Henry throws Christian over the top rope to the outside and then delivers the world's strongest slam on Dreamer for the pin.

With 2:10 left in the match Swagger pins Henry.

Henry delivers the old 'chocolate slide' on Swagger, Christian then hits Swagger with the killswitch but Dreamer pulls off Christian and hits the DDT for the pin.

The final 0:20 features all five trying to score falls but Dreamer escapes with the win.

Backstage Edge tells Teddy Long he needs to think outside the box because he's on probation and suggested a three way with him, CM Punk and Jeff Hardy tonight - Long said no.

A Gillette ad aired with Vince McMahon and John Cena.

Chris Jericho Vs Rey Mysterio in the 'Title Vs Mask Match' is next.

This match was fantastic - worth the price of the replay alone. The crowd was so hot for this match and were behind every near fall and on the edge of their seats. There were noticeable chants for Jericho, who was over as a face at times during the match. Finish featured Jericho grabbing the mask off of Mysterio, who had a second mask on and then hit the 619 and a springboard splash for the pin. Excellent match - probably the second best WWE PPV match of the year behind Michaels and 'Taker from 'Mania.

Chris Jericho demands a rematch with Rey Mysterio tonight from Teddy Long, who turns him down. Long says he's been the longest serving G.M in WWE history and will be at five years next month. Jericho says he won't make it to 5 years.

Dolph Ziggler Vs The Great Khali is next.

I just don't think it's possible for Khali to have a good match - somehow The Undertaker did it once but do we have anything else? Ross compared Khali's offense to the dreaded 'bowling shoe'. Kane made his return and destroyed Khali with chair shots and Ziggler ran in and got the pin.

Vince McMahon comes backstage to see Teddy Long. McMahon says that in five years Long hasn't done anything and says he is boring and the only thing he does is a dance but has no rhythm.

Carlito & Primo Vs Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes for the Tag Titles

Jerry Lawler has a great line where he asks Michael Cole 'Are you glad you never get yelled at by Vince McMahon like Teddy Long just did?'.

Teddy Long comes to make an announcement and that this match is now a triple threat match with the addition of Edge & Chris Jericho.

Edge and Jericho get the win after Edge spears Carlito.

Backstage they tease problems between Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase. Orton doesn't care that they lost the match and they need to focus on helping him tonight with HHH. DiBiase gets pissed and walks away and Rhodes says he will talk to DiBiase.

Melina Vs Michelle McCool for the Women's Title

They put a lot of emphasis on Alicia Fox. Fox put the foot of McCool's on the ropes to break up a fall. Melina knocked Fox to the ground and then walked into a Styles Clash by McCool so McCool is your new champion.

CM Punk Vs Jeff Hardy for the World Title

The crowd was back into this match and I thought was booked really well. Punk worked the entire match as a heel. Both men worked hard in this match. They teased a title change with Hardy hitting a swanton and pinning Punk, but the referee ruled that Punk's foot was under the ropes and the match continued. Immediately they did a spot where Punk was poked in the eye and the referee went to check on him and Punk all of a sudden threw a kick and hit the ref. This was done great where Punk can defend it stating his vision was blurred. Hardy wins the match by DQ. After the match Hardy attacked Punk.

Randy Orton is backstage and calls Rhodes asking if he has spoke to DiBiase but gets his voicemail - aren't they in the same arena? Legacy needs to invest in Blackberry Messenger for these situations.

The Miz Vs John Cena is second from the top.

The gave Miz a bit during the match but it didn't go long and ended with Miz tapping out furiously to the STFU. The announcers tried to put Miz over at the end that he brought his 'A' game, we will see tomorrow how he is treated after tonight and that should tell the story.

Randy Orton Vs Triple H for the WWE Title in a '3 Stages of Hell Match'

The first two falls were real quick with Triple H being DQ'd in the first fall with multiple chair shots but then evened it up by pinning Orton right away with a pedigree.

The third fall was a 'strecther match' with DiBiase and Rhodes getting involved near the finish and attacking Triple H. Orton kicked Hunter low and was able to push him across the line on the strecther so Orton is still the WWE champion.
