**This week's edition of 'Review a Wai' will be a review of the 1999 'Royal Rumble' with Wai Ting and I reviewing the event, which you can hear when you download The LAW late tonight or tomorrow morning.
**To get set for tonight's big show you can listen to our ‘Worst of 2008' show from last year by clicking here.
**The ‘Raw' crew has a house show in Rochester, Minnesota today and the ‘Smackdown' and ECW crews are in Duluth, Minnesota. The TV tapings are in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday night featuring Mike Tyson as the special guest host.
**The funeral for Dr. Death Steve Williams took place on Friday in Lakewood, Colorado and about 1,000 people attended the ceremony including Jim Ross, Ted DiBiase Sr., Terry Taylor, Leon ‘Vader' White and Stan Hansen. Just this past week I listened to the half hour interview that Dan Lovranski conducted with Dr. Death back in September 2007 when he was still working as a trainer in OVW, to listen back to that chat click here. Williams was always one of the most sincere individuals I ever had the pleasure of chatting with and had the chance to interview him myself. In this interview he discussed his early days of amateur wrestling where he was one of the best in the country (and this was while he was doing football on top of wrestling), working for Bill Watts, his two favorite promoters as well as Chris Benoit. Even in 2007 he was always adamant about protecting the business in Japan and maintaining his matches were legitimate over there, which is a mindset a lot of performers from that era still hold that even though the business has been opened up in North America that it's still sacred in Japan.
**Drew McIntyre (Drew Galloway) and Tiffany (Taryn Terrell) recently got engaged.
**The WWE released DJ Gabriel (Steve Lewington) over the past few days and made the following statement regarding his release on his MySpace page:
Although my tenure within the WWE is now over, I won't get depressed over it. I'll be the first to admit that I knew it was coming sooner rather than later. I didn't know when, but I knew it was getting closer. Today starts a new chapter in my life and in my career. I'm not going to look back, complain, and berate the WWE because I have nothing but good things to say about them. They gave me an opportunity to live in the spotlight, and whether whatever character I portrayed or how long it lasted, I still got that opportunity.
I had a blast working in the WWE, there are so many matches and memories that will always put a smile on my face. Kenny Bolin, Jim Cornette, and the McMahon family were big inspirations on my career. I have nothing but good things to say about all of them. They helped me incredibly the entire time I was with the WWE and I am honored to have come to know them.
**The WWE has also released the following developmental talent: Rashad Goff, Christoph Herzog, Aaron Reed, Bryan Wilcott, Max McGuirk (who is the grandson of former Mid South promoter Leroy McGuirk) and Dylan Klein gave his notice and the company has released him as well.
**The February 13th Ring of Honor 8th anniversary show will be headlined by Austin Aries defending the ROH Title against Tyler Black and if it goes 60-minutes like they did at ‘Final Battle 2009' then it will go to the three judges at ringside, who will be Kenny King, Roderick Strong and Jim Cornette.
**Jeremy Borash did a radio interview this past week in Rochester, New York stating that a huge name would debut at ‘Genesis' next Sunday and that TNA had ‘Raw' playing backstage (I know for a fact that the WWE also had ‘Impact' playing backstage during their show as well).
**Stacy Keibler recently talked to SI.com on possibly going back and hosting ‘Raw':"
It's funny because I actually went to them when they were in my hometown of Baltimore a little while ago and they completely ignored me. Then, probably a month later, my publicist called them again and they said "Oh, we would love to have her" and they gave us some dates, but it didn't work around my schedule. So maybe in the future if the timing is right, but right now there no plans to do it. But it would be so much fun to walk out and feel that energy again and be around my fans. I would absolutely love to do it.
contacted the company about hosting the ‘Raw' in Baltimore last year and they
never got back to her and instead used Verne Troyer on that show. Keibler is a
huge local celebrity in Baltimore and even ranked very high in a recent poll of
the most famous Baltimore residents beating out Cal Ripken Jr., who played for
years with the Orioles.
**Vince Russo Q&A recap from his Facebook page promoting his book ‘Rope Opera', which comes out in February.
**If you are interested in writing a recap of WWE ‘Smackdown' each week - send me an e-mail and any writing samples you may have.
