**Sunday night on The LAW Dan ‘The Mouth’ Lovranski and Jason Agnew will be taking your calls all night long at 1-855-591-6876 and 416-870-1050 chatting the best and worst moments in ‘Raw’ history and looking ahead to the 1,000th episode the next night and what you would like to see. Tune in tomorrow night at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto and online here on the website.
**Michael Hayes remembers the late Terry Gordy with a song called ‘Freebird Road’ (Gordy passed away in July of 2001):
**The ‘Raw’ crew is in Little Rock, Arkansas tonight for a house show and then in Springfield, Missouri tomorrow for a show. The ‘Smackdown’ crew starts their tour tonight in Sioux City, Iowa and then are in Omaha, Nebraska tomorrow and then both crews are in St. Louis for the biggest ‘Raw’ of the year.
**TNA hosts what will likely be their largest attended house show of the year tonight in Brooklyn, New York at Cyclone Park for their ‘Basebrawl’ themed show.
**Vince McMahon speaks to Business Week about productivity in his company and what makes him a great leader along with how many hours he sleeps at night.
**Despite ‘Impact Wrestling’ taking a big hit last week the show rebounded this week averaging 1,320,000 viewers and that is with the DirecTV blackout for 20% of the homes with Spike TV.
**News came out last week that apparently the WWE let their ownership of the ‘ECW’ letters slip and a company out of the Northeast has scooped up the rights to the name (and likely to face a court battle from the WWE if I was guessing). Paul Heyman took to Twitter and posted the following rant regarding this upstart group planning to promote themselves as ‘ECW’:
Letters don’t mean anything. WWE’s #ECW wasn’t ECW. Any1 can buy letters. Big deal. ECW was based on ORIGINAL IDEAS! It’s called “having an imagination.” Obviously, trying to be a duplicate ripoff of the past is not “new” or “original” nor “game changing.” #ECW was a product of its time. When I wrote @WWE #Smackdown in 2002/03, I didn’t try to duplicate ECW. You move on with the times, people. #ECW One Night Stand was supposed to be a ONE NIGHT STAND. Not a way to re-marry your ex. If someone wants to take a try at re-doing #ECW, knock yourself out. Go for it. Maybe ur investment is smarter doing something NEW!!!
**Here are the matches scheduled for this weekend’s edition of Ring of Honor:
*Eddie Edwards & Adam Cole Vs Mike Bennett & Bob Evans
*Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin Vs Matt Saigon & Dragon
**Ring of Honor has announced a long term deal with Michael Elgin has been signed.
**Nick Dinsmore worked a dark match on Thursday night prior to ‘Impact’ losing to Kazarian.
**Kurt Angle was married on Friday to his girlfriend, Giovanna and the couple is also expecting their second child.
LAW MMA UPDATE
**Tonight is the UFC 149 card from the sold out ScotiaBank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta with a card that was ravaged by injuries and changes that led to nine injured fighters being taken off of this card and two other fighters being moved. On paper this a interesting card with some important fights on top and a number of good stylistic match ups on the undercard that I’m looking forward to. It is not a show that is going to do a blockbuster number on pay-per-view but neither was Jose Aldo and Erik Koch (the original main event, though with the support of Michael Bisping, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira it was a strong main card that was initially put together from a marquee standpoint). Here is the full card kicking off at 7pm EST on Facebook:
MAIN CARD (airing on pay-per-view at 10pm EST)
*Urijah Faber Vs Renan Barao for the Interim Bantamweight Title
*Hector Lombard Vs Tim Boestch
*Cheick Kongo Vs Shawn Jordan
*Brian Ebersole Vs James Head
*Chris Clements Vs Matt Riddle
PRELIMINARY CARD (airing at 8pm EST on FX and Rogers Sportsnet)
*Court McGee Vs Nick Ring
*Roland Delorme Vs Francisco Rivera
*Anthony Perosh Vs Ryan Jimmo
*Bryan Caraway Vs Mitch Gagnon
FACEBOOK FIGHTS (airing at 7pm EST at Facebook.com/UFC)
*Antonio Carvalho Vs Daniel Pineda
*Mitch Clarke Vs Anton Kuivanen
**Jason Agnew and I will be live on TSN 1050 Toronto tonight right after the main card recapping the entire show and taking your phone calls at 1-855-591-6876 and locally in Toronto at 416-870-1050. We will also be chatting with Paul Lazenby, who will be at the show live tonight covering the event.
**For a full preview of UFC 149 along with my chats with Hector Lombard, Tim Boetsch, Court McGee and Tom Wright you can catch this week’s edition of ‘The MMA Report with John Pollock’ at http://lawradio.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=shows&action=display&thread=1171 or simply search for grab it off of The LAW’s iTunes feed.
**Bret Hart is scheduled to be walking Nick Ring down to the octagon tonight for his fight. It’s unknown if they will air the entrance or not with Hart involved but would be a no brainer if I was making the call. I was told a week ago that the plan was for Hart to walk Antonio Carvalho down to the octagon but Hart decided to walk Ring instead because he’s a local guy and also Harry Smith trains at Ring’s gym in Calgary not to mention if they air the entrance it would be a waste on Facebook but will be cool for the live crowd especially if Ring uses Hart’s music.
**UFC President Dana White will be making an announcement regarding the title plans for the Middleweight division after tonight’s show at the post fight press conference.
**MMA Junkie was the first to report that Strikeforce had signed Tim Sylvia to fight Daniel Cormier on September 29th in Sacramento, California. Sylvia has not fought for Zuffa since February of 2008 when his contract expired and the UFC opted not to re-sign him at the terms he requested and signed with Affliction where he headlined the promotion’s first pay-per-view losing in 0:36 to Fedor Emelianenko. It was after the Emelianenko fight that he was humbled with a 0:09 knockout loss to aging former boxer Ray Mercer and since that time has won seven of his last eight fights and has been campaigning heavily on Twitter to come back to the UFC with fans flooding Dana White’s account on a daily basis. White was asked if Sylvia was coming back after the press conference on Thursday.
Since the story came out White has responded on The Underground that Sylvia is NOT in fact signed by Strikeforce so this one continues to develop.
**Here is an interesting chat with Dana White discussing a number of topics including his picks for the top five promoters of all-time and where he ranks against Vince McMahon and Don King.
