South Lake Tahoe, NV (USA)- Saturday, August 18th Montbleu Resort, Casino & Spa and Matt McGovern’s World Fighting Championships (WFC) teamed up to present, “MMA at the Lake.”

What the crowd did not know, was that they were in store for a special attraction that featured Nevada’s Secretary of the State, Ross Miller versus experienced wrestler, Jamal Williams. The match up was kept a secret by the promoter, Matt McGovern, as a personal favor to Mr. Secretary.

“My job is to highlight and run with special attractions like this, but I understood the media circus it would create for Ross, so I gave him my word that I would not promote it.” said by Matt McGovern, President, WFC.

Win, lose, or draw Mr. Miller had prepared himself in all areas of Mixed Martial Arts Saturday night, and he needed every bit of it.

Round one: Miller came out a bit timid and was blasted with some early shots from his game opponent, Jamal Williams. Late in the round, Williams had Miller fans scared when he sunk in a deep guillotine choke. Mr. Secretary was able to get loose and take side control.

During the break between rounds, Miller’s corner man forgot his stool, making it a little harder on the politician. Miller still had a little humor for his corner, “What, you didn’t think there was going to be a second round?” and his lead corner, Rick Reeves responded, “You just need to relax and let your hands go!” And that he did!

Round two: Miller ate a few more shots from his opponent early, but that awoke the 6’4 205lb nervous Secretary. Miller quickly landed a quality right hand, followed by a devastating right kick to the body of Williams, followed by a big right again, as his opponent hit the cage floor Mr. Miller finished him up with some serious ground and pound until the ref stopped the fight. The capacity crowd at Montbleu Resort erupted and shared in celebration with Miller.

In his post fight interview, Miller encouraged the public “to get out and vote come November.” Part of his responsibility as the Secretary of State is to run the voting process in Nevada. The highlight of the interview was when Miller spoke about his passion for training and competing in MMA; “it requires incredible mental strength and resilience and that’s what I love most about it. You’re mind will try to give you a million reason to quit but you’ve got to push through!”

“Mixed Martial events are currently illegal to put on in the state of New York. To have a powerful politician compete on our fight card hopefully shows the world how far our sport has evolved.” Said Matt McGovern, WFC

Video footage of the fight will available at, and later this week.

WFC World Fighting Championships was founded by up and coming promoter, Matt McGovern. The WFC sponsors the high-energy sport of Mixed Martial Arts fighting and features some of the sports top talent.
