Another title rematch is set.
Daniel Cormier will defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 206 on December 10, 2016 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON.
The two faced off in May 2015 at UFC 187 after Johnson’s original opponent Jon Jones, at the time current light heavyweight champion, was removed from the event and stripped of the title due to a hit-and-run incident. Cormier was pulled from his originally scheduled bout with Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night New Orleans to replace Jones at UFC 187.
In the bout, Cormier received the first knockdown in his MMA career. However, Cormier fought back by controlling the action on the ground, eventually submitting Johnson with a third round rear-naked choke to claim the vacant title.
Cormier has since defended his title winning a split decision against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 last October. Cormier also defeated short-notice replacement Anderson Silva at UFC 200 following a failed USADA test for Jon Jones just three days prior to the event in July, resulting in Jones being pulled from the event.
Johnson has since received three “Performance of the Night” bonuses in knockouts of Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira. All three finishes happened in a total of 2 minutes, 7 seconds of cage time.
