LAW Aug 25 Update - Florida Promotion Set Back

**The mysterious Florida group that has been discussed heavily over the past few months has pushed back their launch date from this fall to early 2011 according to an e-mail sent out to talent. PWInsider.com received the e-mail and have posted the entire document online on their site. In the e-mail the promotion, which is being called Worldwide Wrestling Promotions (WWP), their Vice President R. Sean Pascoe states that the launch date has been moved to the new year and is willing to let any talent go that doesn't wish to make changes to their contracts and will be welcome to return when the company launches. Pascoe also states that those willing to make changes to their existing contracts will receive added stock in the company and that a major deal was signed this past week.

LAW MMA UPDATE

**The Canadian Medical Association has voted on a motion to proceed with a proposal to ban Mixed Martial Arts in Canada at their annual meetings in Niagara Falls, Ontario. A motion was presented to the CMA by the British Columbia Medical Association and was passed with 84% of the votes in favor of the ban, 15% abstaining from the vote and 1% voting against the motion. I have spoken to one person who was of the belief that there was no MMA representation invited to the meeting and was a one sided presentation by the BCMA. We are currently awaiting comment from Tom Wright of the UFC to address what steps will be taken by the organization in light of this news.

**I will be appearing on ‘MMA Meltdown' tonight at 11pm EST with host Gabriel Morency along with Mike Goldberg of the UFC and MFC Lightweight Champion Antonio McKee.

**Whoever cut this promo for the Randy Couture Vs James Toney fight deserves major props.

**MMA Fighting.com reported today that Nick Diaz will defend the Welterweight Title against K.J Noons at the next Strikeforce card on Showtime set for San Jose, California on October 9th. Noons defeated Jorge Gurgel this past Saturday at the promotion's event in Houston, Texas. Diaz and Noons last fought in November 2007 where the fight was stopped due to a cut sustained by Diaz during Round 1. Following Noons' victory this past weekend he was given the opportunity to fight either Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez or Diaz. Those close to Strikeforce have stated that Jason 'Mayhem' Miller was not in the running for the fight with Diaz due to the Nashville brawl and CBS and Showtime not interested in using Miller at this time. It's a situation where it isn't necessarily fair as yes, Miller got into the cage following the fight with Jake Shields and Dan Henderson but he did not throw the first blow or even gesture that he would attack them but Strikeforce is not going to punish their champions Diaz and Melendez and the other two (Jake Shields and Nate Diaz) are not with the company. The belief is the brawl wouldn't have occurred if Miller stayed out of the cage but he was trying to build a fight and the Cesar Gracie camp took it to the next level.

**Fedor Emelianenko has stated he wants to fight Alistair Overeem next in light of the fact that Fabricio Werdum is undergoing surgery and won't be ready for the December Strikeforce card. The problem is that neither will Overeem as he is committed to participate in the K-1 World Grand Prix tournament according to Loretta Hunt of Sherdog.com. Strikeforce is in a very tricky position as Fedor is entering the final fight of his three fight deal with the promotion and putting him in the ring with Heavyweight Champion Overeem is very risky as Fedor could win the fight and leave the promotion with egg on their face as a lame duck champion. Critics will also point to the fact that Fedor receives a title shot following a loss but that precedent was already sent when they needed a challenger for Overeem and gave Brett Rogers the title shot following his loss to Fedor not to mention K.J Noons is going to receive a Welterweight Title shot following a lightweight bout (which is more forgivable but with a thin roster these are problems you encounter). The next option is Fedor fighting someone like Antonio Silva or Sergei Kharitonov, which has zero interest from a marquee standpoint and to me is a waste of a Fedor fight. The key is Fedor agreeing to a new contract for maximum value with promoting his next fight.

**We will have an interview posted with Paul Lazenby here on the site tomorrow discussing the BCMA / CMA situation, the current landscape of MMA in British Columbia, working with Steve Austin on a number of projects, UFC 118 this weekend and much more.
