LAW Dec. 1 Update - Foley Unlikely to Stay with TNA
John Pollock / December 1, 2010 - 4:56pm
**During an interview with ‘Geek Week’ on Tuesday Mick Foley heavily indicated that he would not be re-signing when his contract with TNA came due in 8-9 months and made open comparisons of the promotion to WCW in terms of the hierarchy and system of communication. Foley was unhappy that the promotion decided to not air to his recent medal acceptance at the Jon Stewart / Stephen Colbert ‘Rally to Restore Sanity’ event and felt it would have made the company look great to have one of their performers honored at such a high profile event. Foley also noted that with Hulk Hogan as the face of the company that there isn’t a need for Foley anymore and you can only have so many non wrestlers on the show that can cut promos. Foley had made it clear in recent weeks while promoting ‘Countdown to Lockdown’ that if he were to receive a phone call from the WWE to enter the Hall of Fame that he would accept and attend the ceremony, though he likely could not be contractually available for the 2011 Atlanta ceremony as he will still be under contract to TNA at that time.
**Kaitlyn won the third season of ‘NXT’ on Tuesday night defeating Naomi in the finals. Kaitlyn was clearly the most visible of anyone on the cast getting exposure on ‘Smackdown’ each week while the other remained on the internet show and indicated early on that the WWE had their sights set on her for a permanent role. The word going around is that both Naomi and A.J. will be signed by the company.
**The WWE also confirmed on the broadcast Tuesday night that there will be a Season 4 of ‘NXT’ that will start next Tuesday night and be an all male cast with the following rookies and mentors:
*Derrick Bateman (Daniel Bryan)
*Johnny Curtis (R-Truth) – Long time independent worker, who got his start under Killer Kowalski and has been working for 11-years and under developmental deal for years where he started in Deep South and was then moved to Florida where he worked as a tag team with Tyler Reks for a period.
*Brodus Clay (Ted DiBiase)
*Conor O’Brien (Alberto Del Rio) – Formerly worked under the name Ryan O’Reilly and briefly on ECW on Sci-Fi in late 2006 as one of Paul Heyman’s bodyguards, he left the business altogether in 2008 but then returned a few months later.
*Jacob Novak (Dolph Ziggler)
*Byron Saxton (Chris Masters) – Former ECW announcer towards the end of the show’s run.
**The three-hour edition of ‘Raw’ Monday night did a 3.1 rating and averaged 4,760,000 viewers over the three hours. As per usual with the three hour editions, it was the first hour that dragged down the rating doing a 2.65 rating in the first hour and then a 3.35 and 3.41 in the second and third hours.
**The poster for TNA ‘Genesis’ on January 9th has been released with Kurt Angle featured on the poster and the tag line ‘Kurt Angle is back and he’s bringing hell with him’.
**The WWE has announced that Cedric the Entertainer, Diddy-Dirty Money, Sherri Sheppard, Ariel Winter and Rima Fakih will also be part of the WWE ‘Tribute to the Troops’ event on December 18th, which will be taped at Fort Hood.
**TNA will hold the ‘Destination X’ pay per view on March 13th 2011 from Orlando, Florida at the Impact Zone.
**Tonight is the two-hour ‘Ultimate Fighter 12’ episode featuring the semi finals with Nam Phan Vs Michael Johnson and Jonathan Brookins Vs Kyle Watkins and then the winners will meet Saturday night on the finale event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
**Chael Sonnen will appear before the California State Athletic Commission on Thursday to appeal his one year suspension and $2,500 after he tested positive for a banned substance following his UFC 117 Middleweight Title fight with Anderson Silva in Oakland. In documentation that has been released by the CSAC in preparation for the hearing it was disclosed by Sonnen in the days leading up to the fight that he has taken one shot of testosterone, 6 Advils, 1 tablet of Vitamin C, 1 tablet of iron, 1 multivitamin and 1 aspirin.
**Josh Barnett will also be appearing at the CSAC hearing to seek reinstatement to fight the state. He licnese was denied in August 2009 in preparation for his Affliction bout with Fedor Emelianenko when he failed a pre fight drug test and ultimately the event was canceled and the promotion folded.
