War Machine Taints MMA

So, let’s imagine we don’t know anything about mixed martial arts. Sure, we know that charming guy with the mohawk on dancing with the stars is a ‘UFC-er’, but we’ve heard that these guys are savages and lunatics, so we don’t watch that stuff, and we don’t want our teenagers watching it either.
 
Imagine that’s our preconceived opinion of mixed martial Arts.
 
Then today we come accross a story about a guy who legally changed his name to ”War Machine”, who fights in MMA and ASPIRES to work in the porn business, who (allegedly) hit a girl and hospitalized a couple of guys at a porn industry party while on parole for a previous assault.

Then, while on the run from the police for these alleged assaults, uses Twitter to send messages to people about being on the run from the police while ‘lol’-ing.
 
Ah, maaaaaan……
 
This makes everyone look bad. 
 
Sure, football players or hockey players have ‘freak-outs’ that attract attention, but their sports have a history of mainstream acceptance. Mixed Martial Arts HAS evolved into a main-stream sport, as it deserves to, but its history is filled with legal challenges and smokey bar rooms and growing pains. And some people STILL believe it is a blood sport for sociopaths. ‘War Machine’ doesn’t help. At all.
 
Most Mixed Martial Artists are professional and respectful elite athletes, who are striving for excellence and driven to constantly improve as fighters and professionals. The thugs and bad-asses and tough guys usually don’t get too far. The sport is too mentally demanding.
 
When a guy like Mr. Machine continues to exhibit anti-social behaviour, it taints the whole sport and everyone in it.
 
Shame on you, Mr. Machine. If that IS your real name.

When one looks at this guy’s story honestly, it does seem like he possibly has some type of mental illness or mental troubles. If that is the case, one can only hope he will have the opportunity to get some help, and will move forward and have a successful life in the future.
