Laval, Quebec - World Extreme Cagefighting lightweight champion Jamie Varner confirmed Friday night at the official weigh-ins for XMMA 6 that he would be taking on Donald Cerrone at a WEC event tentatively set for Jan. 25 in San Diego.

Varner will be cornering Jesse Forbes, a veteran of The Ultimate Fighter reality series, in his light heavyweight bout against Ryan Jimmo at the sixth installment of Xtreme MMA.

Varner (15-2), an Arizona Combat Sports product, is on a four-fight winning streak. His last victory was a first-round TKO of Marcus Hicks at WEC 35 in August. The 24-year-old is undefeated in his stint with the WEC promotion. He last tasted defeat at UFC 62 in 2006, a third-round submission by veteran Hermes Franca, who was charged with a DUI yesterday. Since the loss, Varner says he has matured as a fighter and expects his fifth consecutive victory come January.

Cerrone (9-0) is undefeated in his mixed martial arts campaign, including a victory this past Wednesday at WEC 36 over “Razor” Rob McCullough. A Ring of Fire veteran, Cerrone faces his toughest test yet as a professional fighter against the lightweight king of World Extreme Cagefighting.
