LAW Aug 31 Update – NXT Season 2 Finale

By:  | Posted: Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 at 6:16 pm.

**The finals of Season 2
of ‘NXT’ take place live tonight from Albany,
New York with Kaval, Michael
McGillicutty and Alex Riley as the final three. Much like Season 1 I expect a
number of the performers to get contracts after the exposure on WWE television
for all of these weeks though I feel Titus and O’Neil and Eli Cottonwood would
be part of that list. In the ring you cannot make an argument against Kaval
being the furthest along by leaps and bounds and wrestles a unique style that
he has adjusted for the WWE that makes him the favorite in that regard. Kaval’s
promo style is interesting as some do not find it the least bit captivating
while some find the delivery a breath of fresh air and I feel in this system it’s
his handicap along with the pre-existing notoriety, which is always an issue
the talent has to overcome for having the audacity to gain fame prior to the
WWE. McGillicutty has done little to impress me on this season and feel he is
the significant dark horse pick of the bunch to get the win tonight. His
personality has improved over the course of the season but is nowhere at the
level you would expect him to be at. The surname is definitely a plus and was
already earmarked for a spot on the roster as part of a faction with Ted and
Mike DiBiase but when Mike was injured he was thrown on NXT. I feel
McGillicutty would gain a lot by being a part of a tag team right now with
someone like Ted DiBiase and the two would be less exposed when positioned in
that light and not pushed as singles at this point of their careers. Finally
Riley has blown away the others on the mic and has a great delivery and persona
that the company is seeking with this show. His in ring is not where it needs
to be but if you put a gun to creative’s head on what they would mortgage – the
promo or the in ring, they will pick the guy with the stronger promo. I
personally feel Riley would be the best pick for his character to be able to
brag about being the winner and gives him momentum coming out of the show right
off of the bat.

**The ‘Smackdown’ TV
tapings also take place in Albany,
New York tonight. I would expect
the announcement of Kane Vs The Undertaker for ‘Night of Champions’ to be made
tonight.

**Trish Stratus will be
our in studio guest tonight on ‘The Late Shift’ with Jason Agnew on Newstalk
1010 and online at Newstalk1010.com at 10pm EST. You can call into the show at
416-872-1010 and follow us on Twitter @lateshift1010.

Wai Ting and I review a
very strange edition of ‘Raw’ from Monday night featuring pot shots, bait and switch
tactics and a typo!

**Chris Jericho announced
on Twitter today that he was offered a spot on the forthcoming season of ‘Dancing
with the Stars’ but turned it down due to scheduling issues.

**It’s been announced that
