**I have a listing
of all the roster changes already up on the website with my thoughts on all of
the moves. In a nutshell:
*Going to ‘Raw’ -
Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne, Alicia Fox, Gail Kim and Mark Henry
*Going to ‘Smackdown’
- Finlay, Matt Hardy, David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd and Natalya
*Going to ECW – Shelton Benjamin, Goldust,
William Regal and The Bella Twins
**They taped next
week’s edition of ‘Raw’ last night in San Jose as well with John Cena Vs Triple
H in the main event and the winner gets a WWE Title shot against Randy Orton at
‘Night of Champions’. Ted DiBiase Sr. is the special guest host next week on ‘Raw’.
**Hey so if Vince
McMahon has to abide by all of the rules put in place by Donald Trump for the
one week he owned the show does that mean Bob Meyrowitz’s rulings have to be
honored by Dana White?
**The WWE ‘Smackdown’
and ECW TV tapings take place in Fresno,
California tonight. CM Punk Vs
Edge has been announced for ‘Smackdown’ but nothing announced as of yet for
ECW. Tomorrow night they are in Bakersfield,
California for next week’s shows.
**Maryse Vs Mickie
James for the Diva’s Title has been announced for the July 26th ‘Night
of Champions’ pay per view in Philadelphia.
**Brian Christopher
(Brian Lawler) pled guilty on Monday at a Lakeland,
Tennessee courthouse to public
intoxication and has been ordered to pay a $50 fine and also undergo 30 days of
rehabilitation. Lawler was arrested on Friday morning and in doing so
threatened to rip the head off of an officer. In Lawler’s mug shot he has a
black eye from a fight the weekend prior at a bar where he chose to get into a
fight with a trained MMA fighter.
**There is an interview
with TNA president Dixie Carter on the TNA website. This interview did
illustrate to me a lot of the problems with the internal thinking of this
company. The majority of this interview focuses on television ratings being up
almost 20% over the past year and how they are neck and neck with ECW some
weeks and want to target ‘Friday Night Smackdown’ in the rating and potentially
go head to head with ‘Raw’ (which was a disaster the one time they tried it). It
really shows how much stock is put on TV numbers and that is clearly a
byproduct of Vince Russo and a holdover of the ‘Monday Night Wars’ where TV
ratings suddenly became the be all and end all. I would have much more
confidence if the big numbers they focused on were pay per view buys where the
company actually makes money on if they rise and is a much better indication of
your level of fan base as opposed to fair weather fans that may tune in each
week but aren’t engaged enough with the product to plop down $30 once a month.
The WWE destroys they TV numbers for the UFC and yet would anyone debate which
brand is a stronger one right now and which is more healthy? The UFC takes
anywhere from a 0.5 – 0.9 for their monthly countdown shows and that can
transfer over to anywhere from 350,000 buys and over. Next Tuesday night is the
UFC 100 countdown show and I would be shocked if it even hits a 1.0 so odds are
TNA will easily beat that number and yet UFC 100 will do in excess of 1 million
buys and TNA will do in the range of 25,000 for ‘Victory Road’ next month. My
point is don’t go crazy over the dips and peaks of TV numbers as there is zero
chance Spike TV is dropping TNA anytime soon and there contract is very likely
to be renewed in 2011 so don’t panic if you hit a 1.0 one week and celebrate
over a 1.2 the next week. More exposure and more eyeballs on the product are
always great but if none of those new eyeballs care enough to buy the pay per
view or go to the next house show than where are the real tangible gains you
are making?
**John Cena’s movie ’12
Rounds’ is out today on DVD and Blu Ray. The movie did not do particularly well
at the box office so the hope is it will have a much stronger life on DVD and
Blu Ray, which ‘The Marine’ did very well with.
