LAW March 17 Update – Von Erichs in Hall

By:  | Posted: Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 at 12:03 pm.

**The WWE did announce on their website last night that the Von Erich family will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. The decision not to announce this on TV is believed to me because of the timing with Andrew Martin’s death and the fear that the media will jump on the WWE. I did find it unfortunate but definitely not surprising that they failed to make mention of his passing. The company is going to avoid negative publicity wherever possible even if it means ignoring a performer who worked there as recently as two years ago.

**The “Tampa Tribune” reports that both steroids and other prescription drugs were found in the condo of Andrew Martin. Toxicology reports are still pending until the official cause of death can be announced.

**Here are the matches on ECW tonight, which were taped last night prior to “Raw” in San Antonio, Texas:
*Paul Birchill Vs Finlay
*Jamie Noble Vs Evan Bourne
*Shelton Benjamin & Mark Henry Vs MVP & Christian

**The “Smackdown” double tapings take place tonight in Corpus Christi, Texas including the taping of this Friday’s 500th episode. They have announced that Shelton Benjamin Vs MVP will take place on this week’s show and talent from all three rosters will be on the show. This will be the final “Smackdown” double taping before reverting back to their old schedule of only taping one show per week.

**WWE “Smackdown” finished with a 1.9 rating last Friday night.

**JBL Vs Rey Mysterio (presumably for the Intercontinental Title) has been added to “WrestleMania 25″ along with The Miz & John Morrison Vs Primo & Carlito for both sets of Tag Titles.

**The WWE announced 19 names for the Diva’s battle royal last night (all of whom are on the current roster) so that leaves six spots up for surprises. The graphic did include Gail Kim, who will likely be making her debut at ‘Mania. In an interesting note, she made her initial WWE debut in June 2003 in a battle royal and won the Women’s Title on her first night in.

**Sting & Kurt Angle Vs Mick Foley & Jeff Jarrett headlines TNA “Impact” this week.

**Hulk Hogan appeared on “Bubba the Love Sponge” and stated that recently Brooke attended a party at Linda’s house and Linda gave her a joint on top of previous allegations that she would give Brooke alcohol when she was underage.

**Here is a link to Mickie James appearing on the “Jenny Jones Show” years ago. (Thanks to Trevor Auld)

FEEDBACK FORUM

Stephanie in Winnipeg:

Firstly, my condolences to the family of Andrew Martin.

However, the angle with Stephanie and Triple H turning on Vince instead of Test has a higher impact. The next night on RAW, how do you have Vince get irritated enough to leave the McMahon-Helmsleys in charge? In the ‘hindsight is 20/20 booking,’ I still say you keep Vince in the Armageddon match, however it’s Test that comes in to pick up the pieces in what was the Mick Foley spot. Having those Martin and Helmsley fight, while building Foley on the side. Mick and Triple H culminate at WrestleMania 2000, where Test screws the Game out of the belt? Now that would have lead to some nice futures for the Test character.

Sadly, it’s all ‘what might have been.’

Secondly, the people in Randy’s house were the production crew, I would have to assume. Setting up a ‘satellite location’ isn’t a one person job. However, the robot that was cast as Orton’s wife needs to have their programming upgraded.

On that note, the thought I was going to expand on this week: The women of WWE. Since the announcement this past week of ‘Miss WrestleMania,’ I’ve thought long and hard about the current state of the ladies. Let’s look at the scene:

The Bella Twins – Women who can’t decide if they’re going to go A-List with Miz & Morrison or salsa with the Colons. I know it’s hard to believe, but there are some young girls that are watching the product Vince, and the twins ‘switching teams’ every other week creates confusion and on top of that, has me wondering how fast they’ll fall into the same category as Lita (playing both sides to the middle…?).

Melina & Maryse – No title fights, instead their belts are being shelved for something that’s practically a pagaent. I realize that they’re not the very top they could have, but at least they could throw them together. After all, we’ve done worse: See Massaro, Ashley.

Mickie James, Natayla & Beth Phoenix – The three best ladies in the biz relagated to being (in order): A regular on WWE.com’s “Top Rope Theatre,” a valet and the woman who only wins tag matches.

Add in Vickie taking on Edge’s traits as a ‘loyal spouse’ and Stephanie not having the brains to have security around her at all times (you’d think a woman with as much money as her would have security crawling everywhere, even in this recession), the ladies are looking like fools.

You’d think a show overseen and directed by a woman would have a better image for the females but sadly, it seems independent women are getting the shaft.

Matt Jodouin:

First off, Thank GOD i was at work to MISS THAT PIECE OF SHIT of an EXECUSE for A PPV!!!

Second, can see HBK vs. ‘Taker closing out ‘Mania, but i think it will be HHH vs Orton.
I think Jericho should face Flair, other than Rourke or Austin, it’s the only possible good match we can get out of this storyline.

P.s. I live in Gatineau, and i am going to check out the MMA show there.

Ethan Allan:

First of all I just want to say, I saw the worst segment I have ever seen in my life.ODB’s segement on the PPv.first of all Why did I pay money for this, secondly they thought this was entertaiing. That said the Booker AJ match was good. Ultimate X was also a good match I just wonder will Suicide face Homicide?

If HBK beats Taker, he is the worst at putting over young talent in the history of wrestling. He was the one that retired Flair when a younger guy should have done it, He broke Kozlov’s streak when some one younger should have done it. If he beats Undertaker he will be the worst/ best wrestler ever to happen to the wrestling bussiness.

Joey Oberhoffner:

Hey, guys.  I love the show, but I hate THESE episodes of the show, if you know what I mean.

The death of Andrew Martin is especially poignant for me because, just last week I finished reading the Scott Keith book “Dungeon of Death”, in which he goes over “the list” of wrestlers who passed before their time.  Andrew Martin was mentioned in the book as being someone who was notorious for his use of steroids in order to “keep up with the big boys”.  We’re told that he had conquered his demons, but much like Eddie Guerrero, it seems that they may have come back in the end.

The WWE is going to go out of their way to point out that Martin hadn’t worked for them for several years before his passing, as though that changes something.  A 33 year-old man is dead, and while we don’t yet know why, most of us likely suspect the same thing.  The pressure that Vince puts on every young man who wants to make it as a wrestler is immense – they ALL know that if they want to make it as a star, they have to bulk up – by any means necessary.  That pressure is so strong that even kids like D.H. Smith – who should know better than anyone – feel compelled to try and get bigger.

In the end, I’ll just quote the last sentence of the book, and leave it at that:

“Sadly, the most frequently repeated story is no angle, and it goers like this: A wrestler died from heart attack caused by steroid and painkiller abuse at a young age, and no one learned anything from it”.

Alex Raplenovic:

I just want to send a shout, my thoughts exactly on the ppv and by the way Daniels did a terrible job hiding his identity when he used the EXACT same leap he used to win the tag titles against LAX when he and styles were the tag champs.

Brian Little:

Horrible PPV tonight. Dixie Carter needs to wake up and realize the
current booking staff is horrible, the direction of the company is
horrible, and overall the company is in a bad direction. Oh well
at least Wrestlemania 25 will be watchable compared to this.

Corey Van Slyke:

Main PPV Notes
- Two women’s matches? FUCK NO!!!

- What the fuck was the Bashir doing? this would’ve worked in 2005, not 2009

- The match of 10,000 tacks, please throw them in my eyes

- This is a wrestling show, not a game show, not a dancing show, and ODB is hardly a good prize

- Joe in a match for 90 seconds isn’t what I want to see, 900 is the minimum for “The Killer” Samoa Joe (why didn’t he just wear Steiner’s chain-mail)

- Styles vs Booker was half decent, but only 9 minutes… and whatever happened to “The Phenominal” A.J. Styles?

- Whoever thought of the finish for the Off The Wagon Challenge needs to fall off the wagon, over a cliff.

- Even Ultimate-X couldn’t save this PPV, as good as it was

- The TNA World Title is a little symbolic… you want this belt, you have to live in “TNA’s World”

Other Notes
- I dont want to spend $40 for an episode of Impact

- I counted 71 minutes of “wrestling”, and 24 minutes for the first five matches

- For the love of god, can someone just whack the Main Event Mafia

- RUSSO PLEASE FUCKING DIE!!!

- My Thumb’s aren’t capable of going as low as i want them too

John Bondragon:

Hi guys,

I would like to say FUCK YOU! to the TNA management for the slap in the face they gave us on Impact.

When Cornette said to Sting that the young guys need the spotlight too, i tought cool finaly they listen to us fans.

But then they shit all over us by putting Eric Young of all people, and as if that wasnt enouph they put fucking Rocco the MEM bodyguard…yay way to go!
And Eric young didnt even come out to his own theme, nice spotlight…

Sarah Sweedland:

I have a recent memory of Test that actually happened when he wasn’t even there.  I’m not sure if anyone else noticed but at the recent Super Show in Toronto in December, there was a “TEST” chant going around the arena.  Now that’s a memory that I can hold on to because he didn’t have to be in the arena to actually receive that recognition.  He was a good athlete and had a hard time in the WWE both times, trying to get to the top, and when it looked like he was going to get to the top, like during the McMahon-Test-Triple H thing in 1999-2000, he just got pushed back down.

Andrew Martin kept on trucking and kept making the best of the hand he was delt with, which is inspiring.  It’s too bad that his second run with the company, as well as TNA, was marred by steroid use, and bad publicity.

According to Jim Ross, Andrew Martin wanted to turn his life around, and he was planning on going back to school to get a degree in physical therapy.

My best friend has always been such a huge test fan (maybe even his biggest “testicle” haha) that his death really shocked her, as it did me.  We will miss him and send our hearts and thoughts out to his other fans, friends, and family.

Test in Peace Andrew!

Brod DaSilva:

Hey guys,
As I’m sitting here watching Suicide walk out with the X-TITLE after an awesome Ultimate X Match, I look back at the rest of the Pay-Per-View wondering what the hell happened? A few years ago wrestling fans we given some pretty stand-out matches, feuds, and even gimmicks at the hands of TNA Wrestling. Tonight, I watched the same thing I have been watching for the past 2+ years.

I just wanted to say that the lack of logic that is the promotion TNA Wrestling is why tonight is the last time I ever have to bare witness to a clusterfuck main-event brought to you by TNA.
