Smackdown took place from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and what
a difference in crowd heat from ‘Raw’ on Monday night at MSG.

The show kicks off with Batista coming out to a babyface response from the
audience and he is the opening match of the show.

Batista Vs Matt Hardy

Matt Striker states that Mysterio had taken Batista ‘into his home’ when
Batista had nowhere to go ‘physically’ or ‘emotionally’. Did I miss a week of
the show when Batista was suddenly broke and homeless? Batista attempted the
Batista Bomb but Hardy reversed and hit a DDT for a two count. Batista has also
gotten a nose ring recently that they zoomed in on – that’s tough for a dude to
pull off. Batista hit three spinebusters and then the Batista Bomb for the win.

Backstage Josh Matthews interviews Batista, who states that Rey Mysterio made
three mistakes by costing him the title at ‘Bragging Rights’, signing the hold harmless
agreement and embarrassing him last week during the contract signing. He said
he will destroy Rey on Sunday. He was very angry in this promo.

We got a video previewing the reunion of The Undertaker and Kane
where the video stated that ‘one was born from the darkness of the grave and
the other from the fiery depths of hell’. This was very epic in a ‘Twilight’
kind of way.

Backstage Vickie Guerrero and her lackey Eric Escobar come
into Teddy Long’s office and Vickie states that it was a huge mistake to put
The Undertaker and Kane back together and that she never did that when she was
G.M (that’s because Kane was on Raw). Long states it wasn’t his choice but it
was Vince McMahon who made the match. Vickie also gave Teddy attitude about not
booking Escobar (which actually was another move Vince made prior to ‘Bragging
Rights’). Vince came in and told Teddy that The Undertaker / Kane reunion was a
horrible idea and then hired Vickie for a consultant’s role on ‘Smackdown’ and
Vickie reacted like she just won the lottery.  Long is such a tool on this show by design.

Drew McIntyre Vs Finlay

McIntyre cut a promo prior to the match about Finlay crying -
his mic work is not there yet.

This was booked super short with Finlay going for a double
leg and then poked the eyes of McIntyre, who recovered and hit a double
underhook DDT for the win in 1:38.

CM Punk is out in the next segment with a table that
contains cigarettes, pills that he calls ‘failure in a bottle’ and a bottle of
whiskey, which the Philly crowd booed when he had the audacity to speak ill of
whiskey. He threw it all into one bucket and this led to R-Truth coming to the
ring and you guessed it – dumped the pail overtop Punk. Holding pattern booking
of Punk continues.

John Morrison Vs Dolph Ziggler in a 2/3 Falls Match for the
Intercontinental Title

These two are the new John Cena and Randy Orton – not in the
level of star sense but rather they need to be separated for months because
this is just ridiculous how many times they have wrestled and at least in the
case of Cena and Orton they traded back wins and this one is all Morrison.

I wasn’t a big fan of this match as they had to rush through
three falls instead of making any of the falls mean something and build to
them. Morrison hit an awesome springboard forward roll to the outside on
Ziggler and was selling the ribs after that bump. He got back in the ring and attempted
the Starship Pain but hit the knees of Ziggler. Ziggler attempted to pin the
injured Morrison, who rolled up Ziggler and pinned him – Ziggler is booked like
such a loser, the guy can’t win even when everything is in his favor. Second
fall lasted about a minute with Morrison trying a rollup, missing a kick and
then taking the ZIG ZAG and Ziggler got a fall. Morrison sold the ribs
throughout the third fall and then reversed a tilt-a-whirl and hit a DDT and
the Starship Pain for the win, which I imagine leads to a singles match for the
title next week.

Mickie James Vs Layla

They recapped the angle from last week and the horrible
cutting of the sports bra, which is the heat for this feud right now – and the
fact that McCool and Layla are the bitches you went to high school with and
Mickie is the new kid.

James thought she was Steve Austin in this match with the
Thesz press and then stomps in the corner. Layla has to have the most repulsive
voice in the WWE and yelled during the entire match. Layla attacked the knee of
James, but she rolled up Layla and got the win in a whole 1:08.

After the match a video aired with Michelle McCool singing ‘OId
McDonald Had a Farm’ but called Mickie ‘Piggy James’ and had an animation of a
pig with James’ face having a snout and this made James cry. This was rather
mean spirited. You did legitimately hate McCool after this segment.

Rey Mysterio Vs Tyson Kidd

A few months back this probably would have been given more
time and could have been great but not this week. Kidd put Rey in the tree of
woe and attacked with kicks. Rey came back later in the match and tried for the
619 but Kidd retreated to the floor. Batista was on commentary and didn’t say a
word during the whole match, he got up blocked Rey from jumping off the apron
and Batista threw Kidd into the barricade and Kidd got the DQ win.

After the match Rey hit a seated senton onto Dave and then
Dave chased Rey in the most comical looking running spot in a long time. Rey
went into the ring and then out when Dave tried to get in the ring and then REY
RAN AWAY FROM BATISTA TO THE BACK. What a babyface!

Chris Jericho is backstage with Big Show and says that Show
had to keep his mind on the main event tonight but Big Show states he has his
focus on the ‘Survivor Series’ this Sunday (that would make at least one person
in this company). Show states that he’s won Tag Titles with both The Undertaker
and Kane and will be fine. Show says this Sunday he isn’t working with Jericho
and holds a fist to the head of Jericho. As Show leaves the lights go out and
Jericho freaks out, and then it’s revealed that Show turned the lights off to
prove Jericho is scared.

The Undertaker & Kane Vs Chris Jericho & Big Show

This match was fine but by the end of it, I sure didn’t want
to spend anything to watch a three way with ‘Taker and Show together.

Jericho started the match and worked with Undertaker but
eventually tagged in Show with a look of fear. Kane and ‘Taker double teamed Show
with a clothesline over the top rope.

Later in the match in a nice sequence Undertaker attempted a
chokeslam on Jericho but Jericho reversed into a roll up and transitioned into
the Walls of Jericho but just like last week ‘Taker turned the Walls attempt
into the Hell’s Gate but with ‘Taker applying the move, he took a leg drop by
Big Show.

‘Taker and Kane worked with Show on the floor and put him
over the barricade and then tried to chokeslam him through the announcer’s
table but Jericho hit a double ax handle from the top that the brothers didn’t
sell. Kane chokeslammed Jericho, Show knocked out Kane with a punch and then
chokeslammed ‘Taker. Show went to help Jericho, who hit Show with the code
breaker and then realized what he did, grabbed the World Title and ran up the
ramp and celebrated with the title.

No finish to the match and little interest for the main
event of ‘Survivor Series’. The only matches they have done well with promoting
is Batista and Rey and the feud with Randy Orton and Kofi Kingston, I don’t
predict strong business for this Sunday. 330,000 buys total.
