By:  | Posted: Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 11:07 am.

The first Raw of the month comes to us from the BJCC Arena in Birmingham, AL.
It’s June 1st, Happy Birthday Mr. Cortez!

Raw starts with Randy Orton and Legacy standing inside a steel cage.  Orton references his match against Batista at Extreme Rules.  Orton tells us that he will put a beating on Batista and recounts all the vicious acts that he will implement against the Animal.  Orton reveals that he spoke to Vickie Guerrero and the result of that conversation led to Batista being involved in a cage match tonight.  Orton flips a coin to determine Batista’s opponent, its either DiBiase or Rhodes, it lands on Rhodes.  Rhodes is confident, as he assures Orton that he will bloody up the Animal later on tonight.

Flair’s music plays and the Nature Boy is strutting at the top of the ramp.  Flair comes out and continually interrupts Orton as he tells him that he will give Orton hell tonight.  Flair says that he will continue to call out Orton until Orton accepts a one on one challenge.  Flair is as senile as ever as he challenges Orton to a parking lot brawl, (Flair is absolutely TREMENDOUS! The best delivery I’ve seen in awhile, really has the crowd going)  Orton accepts Flair’s challenge, and excited Flair throws his microphone down and starts kicking at the air in excitement!

Cody Rhodes vs Batista
Batista smiles as he corners Rhodes.  Rhodes tries to climb out, but Batista grabs him and drags him down to the canvas.  The Animal smashes Rhodes into the cage and squishes his head between the fence and his boot.  Batista connects with a huge spear, at this point Orton comes to ringside.  Batista sees Orton, then grabs Rhodes and hits a big spinebuster.  Rhodes eventually recovers and tries to sneak out of the cage by climbing up.  Batista scouts it and clasps Rhodes in a powerbomb position; the Batista bomb connects for an easy win.
Winner: Batista
After the match Batista celebrates as Orton looks on.

Backstage The Big Show discusses a grievance with Vickie and Chavo Guerrero.  Big Show says he doesn’t want the Miz as his partner later on tonight.  Vickie then tells Big Show to randomly select Cena’s mystery partner by picking a name out of a bag.  Cena’s partner will be Chavo Guerrero.  Big tells Chavo to say out of his way.

Kelly Kelly & Mickie James vs Beth Phoenix & Maryse
Mickie and Beth display some athleticism with a number of reversals, but Mickie gets the better of it as she beings to work the arm; Kelly is tagged in.  Beth quickly recovers and picks Kelly up with a Gorilla press.  Kelly wiggles out and hits a lightening quick huricanranna, but Beth retaliates with a backbreaker.  Maryse is tagged in and locks on the Boston crab.  Kelly escapes and connects with an enziguri.  Beth enters the ring, but is neutralized with a top rope Lou Thesz Press by Mickie, they both go to the outside.  This distracts Kelly which prompts Maryse to land a DDT for the win.
Winners: Maryse & Beth Phoenix.

Carlito & Primo Colon vs Matt Hardy & William Regal
It starts with Primo on the rough end, as Hardy and Regal make frequent tags to ground the young high flyer. Regal continues with jarring head shots on Primo.  Regal rattles Primo with an exploder suplex, Hardy comes in and connects with a scoop slam & leg drop combo.  Primo eventually lands a cheap shot which creates some space to make a much needed tag.  Carlito enters the ring with a springboard dropkick on Regal.  Carlito continues with a leg drop then another springboard elbow.  After Hardy inadvertently hits Regal with the cast, Carlito capitalizes with a backstabber for the win.
Winner: Carlito & Primo Colon

Flair encounters Batista backstage and tells Batista to keep his comments to himself.  Flair tells him that he still feels he has a lot to prove.  Natch explains that he needs to get out there and do it one more time.  He asks Batista to let him face this challenge on his own.

Hardy and Regal ask Vickie Guerrero for another chance.  They tell Vickie that she will defeat Santino in a warm up match, she freaks out.  Hardy whispers a few things to her which changes Vickie’s mind on the proposed match.

Chavo encounters Cena backstage and says that he’s got his (Cena’s) back.  Cena ignores Chavo and continues to walk past Chavo.

Miz is in the ring ranting about John Cena and his fan following.  He tells the crowd that he plans on being 7-0 against Cena tonight.

The Miz & The Big Show vs Chavo Guerrero & John Cena
“Cena’ will need a miracle in a submission match against the Big Show” –Michael Cole (Yup the Big Show is a submission specialist eh, Wow, that’s really hurting isn’t it folks)

Big Show overpowers Cena then knocks him around with head bunts and a sideslam.  Cena takes Show to the ground and tries an STF, but Show is too strong and kicks Cena out of the ring.  Miz hits a cheap shot on Cena on the outside; Big Show scolds the Miz for getting involved.  Back in the ring, Cena attempts a scoop slam on Show, but just collapses backwards.  Miz makes the blind tag and unloads on Cena in the corner then follows up with a running clothesline.  Eventually Cena begins to tee off on the Miz and brands him with the five knuckle shuffle.  Cena hits the attitude adjuster, but prior to dropping Miz, Show makes a blind tag which the ref does not see.  Show plants Cena with a chokeslam.  A dazed Miz is dragged to the corner, as Show yells at him to tag him in.  Miz ignores his partner, and as he looks to pin a collapsed Cena, Show punches Miz in the back of the head.  At this point, Chavo makes a blind tag on Cena and gets the pin over Miz for the win.
Winners: Chavo & John Cena
After the match, Cena hits Chavo with an attitude adjuster and he and the Big Show exchange blows.  Cena flies off the top rope but Show clips him on the jaw with a knockout punch.  Show then applies a modified camel clutch leaving Cena laid out on the canvas.

Kofi Kingston and MVP exchange a few friendly words backstage in preparation for a US title match.

MVP vs Kofi Kingston
US title match
After a feeling out process, MVP slaps on a wrist lock.  The battle goes to the ground as Kingston applies a headlock, but MVP counters with a head scissors.  Kofi bounces off the ropes and goes for a backslide.  Kofi motions to MVP and says, “I was this close,” we go to break.
Back from break, MVP has a waist lock and gets a takedown.  Kofi maneuvers out and picks up speed with a flying back elbow and a huricanranna.  MVP is quick to answer with a mafia kick and a ballin’ elbow drop.  The action goes to the top rope and MVP manages to pull off a top rope suplex.  They begin a series of pin attempts that are all reversed, and then knock each other down with a double clothesline.  MVP nails a German suplex, Kofi responds with a side flipbomb.  They both get up and each attempt their finisher, but can not connect.  Kofi hops up on MVP’s shoulders and rolls forward.  Kofi grabs the legs and manages to hold on long enough for the three count.
Winner: Kofi Kingston (new champion)
After the match, MVP hands the US title to Kingston and congratulates him on a well earned victory.

In the locker room, DiBiase tries to talk Orton out of his parking lot brawl with the dirtiest player in the game Ric Flair.  Orton assures DiBiase that he’s got things under control.

We see Vickie Guerrero head to the ring with two buckets of slop.

Vickie Guerrero vs Santino Marella
Vickie cowers in the corner of the ring, as Santino is about to drop the slop on her.  Santino senses Regal and Hardy approaching the ring and quickly launches the slop at them in a swinging motion (it also manages to land on the cameraman and a few fans in the front row probably got a taste as well).  A furious Regal grabs Santino and smashes him with an exploder suplex.  Hardy pounces on the attack and KO’s Santino with his cast.  At this point, Vickie grabs the remaining bucket and drops the slop all over Santino’s face, as she boasts a cackle.

The Parking Lot Brawl
Orton is seen cautiously walking the parking lot area of the arena.  Flair runs up behind Orton and sends him crashing into a metal garage door.  Flair is assaulting Orton with his chops and once again tosses him into some metal barricades, then stands on his head.  Flair has the upper hand as he continues to chop away at Orton’s red chest.  When they head to the entrance ramp, Orton begins to club Flair’s head and turns the tables, as he stomps away on Flair.  The dirtiest player in the game hits Orton with a low blow and shells out a few stomps of his own.  Flair busts Orton open with continual short range fists.  The cage has been lowered and Flair takes advantage, as he bounces Orton’s skull off the steel.  The action goes to the announce table, when Flair lays Orton atop it and locks on the figure-four.  Flair seemed to have won the battle, but Legacy rush out to aid their mentor.  They attack Flair, and throw him into the cage where they release a vicious attack on the hall of famer.  Orton enters the cage and commands Rhodes and DiBiase to exit and lock the door on the way out.  Batista rushes to assist Flair, which causes Rhodes and DiBiase to flee the scene.  While Batista struggles to open the cage door, Orton obliterates Flair with the RKO.  Orton seals the deal when he punts Flair in the head, thus putting the legend to sleep.  With a psychotic twinkle in his eye, Orton stares a hole through Batista, as the Animal swears revenge on his former teammate.
