WWE Raw Report for June 22 – Battle at the Bash is On

By:  | Posted: Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 at 10:00 am.

This week’s edition of Raw comes to us from the Resch Centre in Green Bay WI.

It’s a full two hours of commercial-free professional wrestling…

The show starts with Donald Trump on the entrance ramp as he welcomes the fans to Monday Night Raw.  He tells the fans that it is their show and receives a huge pop.  Trump tells the fans that after the show is over, he will give those in attendance a full refund of what they paid for their tickets.  He tells the fans to enjoy tonight’s championship match as he walks off stage.

Cena makes his way to ringside. Cena hypes the Orton Triple H bout and continues to plug the commercial free show.  Cena reveals that he will face the Big Show tonight.  Cena declares that Trump knows how to make a statement then goes on to address The Miz and how he has been trying to make a statement for the past few weeks.

Cena calls Miz out.

Miz comes out and beings to belittle Cena by calling him a coward. They have a brief face off in the middle of the ring.  Cena outlines his pay-per-view match with The Miz and tells him that he will shut him up at the pay-per-view.  Cena concludes by telling The Miz he is not a reality television as been but after Sunday he’ll be a “WWE never was.”  The Miz hits Cena with a quick cheap shot and runs out of the ring and up the ramp.

In a video sequence, we see Vince McMahon standing beside his broken down limo with his driver.  After ridiculing the limo driver, he suggested they walk to the arena.  McMahon tells him to give him a “piggy back ride.” After a failed attempt, McMahon continues to scold the driver.

Jeff Hardy, The Great Khali & Rey Mysterio vs Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler & Edge

(Out comes CM Punk to the commentary position)

Khali clubs away on Ziggler who makes a quick tag to Jericho.  Jericho is launched across the ring and sent outside.  Khali tosses Ziggler and Edge to the outside as well.  Hardy sees the opportunity and does a cannonball over the top rope.  Not to be outdone, Mysterio gets on Khali’s shoulders and hits a huge splash.  Khali climbs up the ropes, but Jericho stomps him (too bad).  Back in the ring, Mysterio is getting stomped on by Edge and Jericho.  Hardy and Ziggler exchange in the ring, Hardy hits a reverse atomic drop followed by a reverse suplex.  Out of nowhere, Edge spears Hardy, Jericho hits a code breaker on Khali and Edge drops Khali with a spear.  Mysterio then hits Edge with the 619 and moonsaults to the outside where he lands on Jericho.  Back in the ring, Hardy nails the twist of fate on Ziggler and connects with the swanton bomb for the win.

Winners: Jeff Hardy, The Great Khali & Rey Mysterio.

CM Punk enters the ring to congratulate Hardy, but Hardy is not pleased with the gesture.

Backstage McMahon is having difficulty getting into his office, as it now has the name Trump on it.  Santina sees McMahon and McMahon beings pouring out his frustrations on her.  Suddenly the door opens and Trump tells McMahon that his office is down the hall, McMahon departs.  Trump sees Santina and asks “who the hell are you?” Santina introduces herself, but Trump is not impressed and fires her.

Carlito and Primo Colon enter the ring and talk trash on Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes.  They insinuate that DiBiase and Rhodes are homosexuals, since the two are Orton’s lackeys.

Primo vs Cody Rhodes

Primo works the shoulder until Rhodes hits a bulldog and works a reverse chin lock.  Rhodes continues to ground Primo, until Primo releases himself from Rhodes’ grip and hits a standing dropkick followed by a headscissors and a high elbow.  Primo goes for a crossbody, but Rhdoes rolls through and grabs a hand full of tights to secure the pin and the win.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

(The Colons will likely retain the titles on Sunday)

Once again we are backstage, as McMahon looks for his office.  He encounters Goldust who puts his wig on McMahon’s head.  An angry Vince throws the wig on the floor and walks off, when suddenly he notices his plaque on the door of a bathroom stall.  Festus walks out of the stall with a newspaper and hands it to McMahon.

Triple H vs Randy Orton

Orton starts with kicks and punches but Triple H reverses the assault and sends Orton shoulder first into the steel post.  Triple H begins with the advantage and hits a spinebuster then goes for the pedigree but Orton sends Triple H to the outside.  On the outside, the Game suplexes Orton onto the black barrier.  Orton is being hammered in-between all the fans, until the action goes back to ringside.  At this point, Orton sees an opportunity and begins to target the knee.  Orton smashes the leg with the steel steps and repeatedly hits it against the steel pole.  Orton grabs a chair and wraps it around Triple H’s skull.  The action goes to the announce table, where Orton bounces Triple H’s head off the table and sets up for an RKO, but it’s reversed when H hits a low blow.  Triple H tries the pedigree, but Orton hits the RKO.  The referee begins the count but Triple H gets up at 9 ½. Orton runs at The Game until he is back body dropped onto the table, he gets up at the 8 count.

They begin to fight up the ramp and Triple H hits a spinebuster, he attempts the pedigree once again, but Orton hits a back body drop on the metal ramp.  They battle near the electric cables until Orton is sent flying to another railing.  Triple H grabs a ladder but misses and knocks out a crewman.  Orton takes the advantage and goes to work on Triple H’s leg with the ladder.  He wedges the leg in the ladder and stomps away.  Orton picks Triple H up and begins to crawl up the ladder for an RKO, but Triple H shrugged him off and Orton went splat on the entrance ramp.

Triple H connects with a sloppy looking pedigree but as he hits it, he damages his knee.  The referee begins the count, while Orton is knocked out; Triple H uses the ladder to struggle to his feet but does not make the ten count.

Winner: DOUBLE COUNT OUT (Orton retains the title)

Backstage Miz talks with Maryse and she tells him that she’s isn’t impressed with him yet.  She tells him to make an impact before he even thinks about talking to her.

Trumph goes to the ring and says that week after week a celebrity will host Raw since he chooses not to appoint a general manager.  Vince comes out and begins to bargain in an effort to buy Raw back, as he feels this move will make his company bankrupt.  Trump finally sells Raw back to Vince for double than what he paid for.  An angered McMahon physically threatens Trump and tells him, “You’re Fired!” Trump responds by slapping McMahon in the face, the two are broken up by security.

McMahon encounters Randy Orton backstage and informs him that the match at the Bash is still on and that it will be a “three stages of hell” match.

Bella Twins & Mickie James vs Beth Phoenix, Rosa & Maryse

Beth grabs Mickie with a fireman’s carry and hits a shoulder block.  Rosa and one of the Bella twins exchage fists in the middle of the ring until Bella hits a flying head scissors.  Maryse gets the tag and hits a backbreaker followed by the boston crab and a face-wash on the Bella twin.  Tags are made and Mickie tangles with Rosa.  Mickie connects with a superkick that lands flush on Rosa’s chin thus granting Mickie the three count for the win.

Winners: Bella Twins & Mickie James

John Cena vs Big Show

They stare each other down and Cena pie faces Show.  Show is on the attack for the most part of the match as he focuses on injuring Cena’s ribs.  The match consists of Show standing on Cena’s ribs and splashes in the corner.  The only offense Cena mounts is towards the end when he connects with a facebuster and a top rope legdrop.  Big Show hits a “Vader bomb” from the turnbuckle and drags Cena to the centre of the ring where he is about to apply a submission.  Cena counters it and locks on the STF until The Miz makes an appearance.  Cena goes for the attitude adjuster and Miz pushes Show which causes Cena to lose balance and Show’s weight comes crashing down on Cena’s head.

Winner: Big Show

After the match, The Miz taunts Cena who is out cold in the middle of the ring.

We see Randy Orton in the parking lot, as he is putting his bags in the trunk of his car.  Triple H appears and attacks Orton, slamming the trunk door on Orton’s back.  Orton is riving in pain on the cement floor and Triple crouches down to his level and says, “This Sunday you’re going to hell.”
