WWE Raw Report for June 29 – An Animal-Like GM

By:  | Posted: Tuesday, June 30th, 2009 at 12:28 pm.

This week’s edition of Raw comes to us from Strikeforce / A.K.A territory, the Hp Pavilion in San Jose, California.

Mr. McMahon makes his way down to ringside and addresses last week’s situation with Donald Trump.  McMahon tells the audience that although he can not make a show without commercials, he can give the fans in attendance their money back.  He quickly follows up by saying that he won’t, this statement is received with roaring boos.

McMahon references the rules Trump instituted last week including the no general manager rule and a roster trade.  He goes on to reveal that tonight’s GM will be…Batista.

Batista says there will be a four man Night of Champions tournament.  The Miz will take on John Cena and MVP squares off against Triple H.  His speech is quickly interrupted by Randy Orton and Legacy.  Orton threatens to attack and Batista retorts by stating that he has unlimited power and if Legacy so much as look at him the wrong way, he will not hesitate to fire all three of them.

Batista informs Orton that due to the trade Trump instituted, Raw acquired five new stars and Orton will have a gantlet match against three of them since he (Orton) likes 3 on 1 fights so much. (Batista is obviously referencing the 3 on 1 beatdown courtesy of Legacy.)

Triple H vs MVP

Triple H hits a shoulder block on MVP and is still selling the leg injury from last night’s match.  For most of the match up MVP attacks the leg, but Triple H fights it.  MVP continually kicks and drops elbows on the leg.  Triple H manages to hit a spinebuster, but MVP takes the leg out again.  MVP scores with a ballin’ elbow for a two count.  The action is back on the feet, but MVP lays Triple H out with a backdrop.  MVP attempts a Playmaker, but the Game reverses it and connects with a Pedigree.

Winner: Triple H (advances in the tournament)

Edge & Chris Jericho vs Primo & Carlito Colon

Jericho addresses the crowd and uses his ten dollar words to insult the fans in attendance.  Edge talks about how he approached Jericho in an effort to unite and battle the “management situation.”  Edge goes on to say that since they are the unified tag champions, they can appear on any show.

The match starts with Jericho and Primo.  Jericho hits a shoulder block, but Primo displays his athleticism with a high dropkick and a head-scissors.  Edge eats two hard right hands by Primo which sends him crashing to the outside.  Y2J is launched over the top rope onto Edge.  We see some double team action, as the Colons hit a double baseball slide and we go to break.

Back from the break we see that things have turned around when Edge dropped Primo neck first across the top rope.

Primo catches an opening after pushing Jericho into the turnbuckle following a botched bulldog attempt.  Carlito enters the ring with a springboard dropkick on Jericho followed by a neckbreaker.  Jericho catches Carlito in the Walls of Jericho, but can not execute thus he catapults him into the turnbuckle.  Agility is demonstrated by Carlito, since he lands on the turnbuckle and connects with a crossbody block on Jericho.  Edge makes the save on the pin attempt.  Edge now in the ring, suffers a Backstabber.  Primo hits a suicide dive on Y2J who is on the outside.  Carlito goes for a springboard, but Y2J pushes Primo into the ropes (from the outside), which causes Carlito to fall to the canvas.  Edge capitalizes on the mistake and spears Carlito for the win.

Winners: Edge & Chris Jericho

An excellent fast paced match.  Although the Colons lost, their in-ring work was well displayed with the help of Edge and Jericho.

Batista finds Orton backstage and informs him on a stipulation.  The Animal reveals that if any member of Legacy interferes in Orton’s match, they will be fired.

John Cena vs The Miz

Miz begins with a series of knee lifts and Cena answers with a thunderous forearm and an elbow drop.  Cena hits a fisherman’s suplex, but Miz recovers and clobbers Cena with kicks to the midsection and the head.  Miz moves forward with a knee lift neckbreaker combo.  Following a second swinging neckbreaker, Miz attacks Cena with a beatdown in the corner.

Miz connects with a big clothesline, mounts Cena and reigns down strikes.  After connecting with his corner turnbuckle clothesline, Miz goes to the top and Cena follows.  Miz drops Cena with an electric chair drop and continues with knees to the head.  Miz locks on a rear naked choke and after about 2 minutes, Cena powers out.  The momentum shifts, when Cena connects with a back suplex, drops five knuckles and a top rope leg drop.  The STF is locked on and Miz taps out.

Winners: John Cena

The Miz was in control throughout the entire match and despite the loss, he is coming out of this one looking strong.  It was obvious from the get go, next week we’ll see Triple H versus John Cena in the finals of this Night of Champions tournament.

In the lockeroom, Legacy attempts to calm Orton down but Orton remains frustrated.  Ted DiBiase reveals that his father the Million Dollar Man will be the guest host next week on Raw.

Mickie James vs Kelly Kelly vs Beth Phoenix vs Rosa

Kelly and Mickie square off and Kelly squeezes Mickie’s head with a headscissor.  The two break apart to deliver a double drop kick on Rosa.  Beth comes trampling in with a double clothesline on Kelly and Mickie.  Mickie locks on an inverted guillotine choke, Rosa with a head lock on Mickie and Kelly with rear naked choke on Rosa all in unison.  Beth maneuvers out of the guillotine and shoves all three divas into the turnbuckle.  Following that power move, we see a series of pin attempts until Beth lays Kelly out with a front face slam.  Mickie attacks Beth with a flying head scissors that sends the Glamazon to the outside.  Mickie gets a hold of Rosa and connects with the DDT for a three count.

Winner: Mickie James

Big Show vs Kofi Kingston

Show starts with a crushing clothesline then steps on Kofi’s chest.  Kofi connects with a few leg kicks but Show’s strength proves to be too difficult for Kofi to deal with.  After landing a missile dropkick Kofi gets a 2 count.  Kofi jumps up onto the Big Show, but Show just dumps him to the outside.  After a scrimmage on the outside, Show is about to smash Kofi head first into the turnbuckle.  Kofi wiggles out and Show goes head first into the post.  At this point the referee’s count has reached 10.

Double Count Out

Up next the gauntlet match

Randy Orton vs Evan Bourne

Orton slugs Bourne and sends him to the ropes, but Bourne hits a forearm smash.  Orton gets up and punishes Bourne with a few Randy stomps.  Bourne manages a series of pin attempts then goes upstairs and drops Orton with the double knees.  After an Air Bourne is thwarted, Orton puts this one away with a top rope RKO.

Winner: Randy Orton

Randy Orton vs Jack Swagger

Swagger demonstrates his wrestling ability with a big slam takedown.  Swagger walks to the ring apron and waits for the referee to count him out.  After the 10 count he explains that he admires Orton and wanted to make a good impression on his first night on Raw.

Winner: Randy Orton

Randy Orton vs Mark Henry

Henry grabs a microphone and tells Orton that he has always respected him and wants to make a good impression tonight.  They lock up and Henry shoves Orton down to the canvas.  Henry makes his way to the ring apron and the ref begins the count.  As Orton is recovering, Henry stops the count at 5 and smiles.  Henry re-enters the ring and grabs Orton, sending him half way across the ring.  Henry splashes Orton in the corner and lands a big head bunt.  Henry follows up with The World’s Strongest Slam for the pin!  The crowd cheers the victory, as the big man gets a win over the current champion.

Winner: Mark Henry

After the match, Henry celebrates his victory and this week’s GM Batista comes out to congratulate the world’s strongest man.
