In a major Boxing match, a highly regarded American star, Chad Dawson, once thought to be unbeatable, and long considered one of the finest fighters in the world, was soundly defeated by a Canadian fighter and current world champion, Jean Pascal, on home soil at the Montreal Forum. In what can only be termed a major upset in the light-heavyweight division, Montreal's Jean Pascal (26-1) successfully defended his WBC light-heavy title against the heavily favored American and former champ, "Bad" Chad Dawson (29-1). Pascal was declared the winner on points after the ref stopped the fight in the 11th round due to an accidental clash of heads left Dawson with a deep cut over his right eye, which clearly prevented him from continuing on in the fight. The cut spewed blood like an erupting volcano spews lava. The cut was egregious enough that referee Michael Griffin clearly had no option but to stop the fight in the 11th round and go to the score cards for a decision.

Devon Alexander Continues to Evolve

Last Saturday evening, HBO Boxing presented what they thought would be
the coronation of Boxing's next great superstar, Devon Alexander(21-0,
13 KO), the IBF/WBC junior welterweight champion of the world.
Alexander was facing the former world junior welterweight champion,
Andriy Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13 KO). Alexander won the fight by unanimous
decision, all three judges scoring for him by identical scores of
116-112. The fight was much closer than the scores indicate. Alexander
was supposed to have an easy time of it with this supposed career
stepping stone he was fighting. The only problem with that scenario was
evidently somebody from HBO forgot to mention to Kotelnik that he was
supposed to be an easy mark for their budding superstar. Alexander's
lightning quick hand and foot speed were supposed to help him easily
dominate Kotelnik. It didn't play out that way. Kotlnik was able to
expertly time Alexander's jab throughout the fight. Kotelnik landed 4
and 5 punch combinations seemingly at will by out-thinking Alexander
throughout the fight.

Toney-Couture Mismatch

James "Lights Out" Toney is a former world champion in three different weight divisions, middleweight, super-middleweight and cruiserweight. Actually, make that a five division champion if you include overweight and grossly overweight. It is truly sad to see how far he has let himself go physically, often appearing out-of-shape and immensely obese for many fights later in his career. He is without a doubt one of the most skilled fighters to enter the ring in the last 25 years. He is also one of the most skilled eaters to enter a restaurant in the last 50 years.
